    Beautiful shirt! - 5/13/2014
    By: from Minnetonka, MN

I bought this on the outlet sale and I was very pleased with the purchase and price. Typical Orvis quality - great patterns and vivid colors and fit make this shirt very distinctive and a welcome addition. A bit warm for spring/summer because of the wool blend but will be great for fall. Perfect as usual!

Photo does not do it justice - 2/18/2014

I like these "Viyella knock off" shirts very much. They are warm and sturdy and I have several. I ordered this one on sale and was very pleased to find that it is much better looking than the photo shows. There is a pattern of yellow stripes in the plad which sets off the blue repeating block and makes the whole very attractive.

    Nice, but... - 1/3/2014

I was so excited to have found this shirt to replace my husband's 19 year old favorite shirt. It does seem like a fine quality, well made shirt. The color, though is not what I see online. I went to four different computers and a kindle, and none of them show the true color of the purple in the shirt. It is bright purple, not a soft grayish purple. He's happy with it, but he still wanted is OLD favorite for Christmas dinner.

The shirt shown on web page is not the correct shirt. New model is not nearly as nice and I quickly returned it. Also, a bit pricey for what it was.

    The best I've found - 9/13/2013

I love these shirts. They're part dress shirt and part flannel shirt, which makes for a very classy casual look. They fit and feel great. A part of me wants to say that these are overpriced, but on the other hand, I happily pay the price because there is nothing else that comes close to being as nice as these..

Luxury Cotton & Merino

Brisbane Moss mill circa 1912.In the late eighteenth Century at the dawn of the industrial revolution, the English developed a method of spinning wool and cotton in almost identical quantities. William Hollins and Company, a spinner and knitter in Nottinghamshire, England, developed the original fabric that was used for decades in sportswear, military uniforms, and outerwear.

The genius of his method was that the yarns were indigenously spun combining the warmth of very soft lambswool and long-staple cotton (from far-flung corners of the trade routes of the English Empire), to engineer a very light fabric of exceptional warmth and durability. The chief characteristic of wool is the individual fiber’s ability to trap body warmth and wick moisture; while the chief characteristic of cotton is its smooth and absorbent nature. The expert blending and spinning of the right percentages of these unrelated fibers became a miracle of the age.

Weaving room circa 1890.A more commonly acceptable blend of 81% cotton and 19% lambswool, which was woven as a twill and brushed into a flannel, was produced from the beginning for workwear and more rugged intensive activities. This traditional blend is today the basis of our exclusive Luxury Cotton & Merino fabric.

We found that the longer fibers of today’s merino sheepswool spin tighter and more completely with our long-staple cotton than the older lambswool  (little lambswool fibers, although soft, are very short ). This tightness of yarn establishes the durability while holding the vivid dyes in these yarn-dyed patterns, which have been carefully selected and executed from our textile pattern library.
