Founded in 1880, Wm. J. Mills & Co. made its mark producing sails for the Long Island, NY marine industry. By the middle of the 20th century, Mills had expanded manufacturing to include canvas bags (including the very first tote bag). This design was created to carry ice from the ice house to the docks to keep the boats' ice boxes stocked and chilled. This ice tote bag is handsewn using rugged waxed pure cotton twill and double-needle-stitched rolled and finished seams inside and out for a lifetime of service.
