    Heavy Duty Collar - 3/12/2013
    By: from Minnesota

This is a lovely, heavy-duty, strong leather collar and it fits our nine month old newfoundland pup, with a little room to grow. My only concern is that there are two metal prongs that are on the underside of the collar and I am concerned this will bother our pup. But we will keep an eye on it and hopefully his thick coat will protect him from the metal prongs.

    Quality Collar! - 12/21/2012
    By: from Fairhaven, MA

This collar is made by Col. Littleton in Tennessee and it is exceptional in terms of quality. It only comes in one size, so make sure your dog's neck is larger than 18". I ordered this collar for my dog who has a 16" neck and I needed to punch more holes in the leather to make it fit. He love it and we all love the way it makes him look regal!

Beautiful, but insanely too big! - 11/23/2011
    By: from Westlake Village, CA

Love the quality and beauty of these collars. Unfortunately, they're sized for horses and cows, not dogs! I own two 95 lb. weimaraners and even on the smallest setting, the collars were enormous. Too bad. Had to return both and there is no smaller size...???

    Col. Littleton Collar - 9/6/2011
    By: from Indiana

Excellent quality. I only wish there was a smaller size version. It needs to be a good sized dog for this collar.

Col Littleton Leather Collar - 6/22/2011
    By: from Eastern PA

I got this collar for my Toby a large male yellow Lab Retriever. Its pretty much what I expected for the money and have had a few comments on how nice of a collar it is. Leather still smells great and the brass you can tell will age with a nice patina. Toby went from Animal Shelter dog to king of his castle (my house) haha

Collars: Measure Your Dog for the Right Fit

Where to measure for control collars and regular collars.Proper collar fit is vital for your dog’s health and safety, yet many dog owners don’t know how to determine whether their dogs’ collars fit correctly. Choose a collar that allows you to easily slip two fingers into the collar without touching your dog’s fur. Of course, you don’t want the collar to be too loose, but it should be one notch away from being able to slide over your dog’s head.

Choose a comfortable cloth, webbing, or leather collar. Bare chains are too rough and can get caught on obstacles, leading to injury. If you must use a chain-type choke collar, choose a style that features a protective fabric cover encasing the chain. Collars that encircle the muzzle are excellent for firm control without discomfort, and do not restrict breathing the way traditional choke collars do.
Dr. Gretchen Allen, DVM

To determine the correct collar size, you will need to measure your dog's neck. For a regular day- to-day collar, use a fabric tape measure and measure by wrapping it comfortably around the base of your dog's neck, with enough room to fit two fingers in between the tape and your dog. For a control collar, you will need to take another measurement at the top of the neck, directly behind the ears, to correspond with the size of the collar in the closed position. Once you have taken these measurements, let our Orvis Pet Experts help you select the right collar size.
