Helios 2 8-weight 9' Fly Rod—Tip Flex

The Helios 2 is the best fly rod the world has ever seen. Made in USA.

3¼ oz. 9', 4-piece, Tip-Flex fly rod for 8-wt. line.

The wind swirls across the flat as the sun blasts you from above. A silvery streak flickers beneath the surface. This is your one shot. Make it count. Make sure you're fishing the Helios 2. Strong, light in the hand, and deadly accurate, the 908-4 Helios 2 is the most complete and versatile big-game fly rod we've ever produced. Swing steelhead flies in sub-zero weather or toss Crazy Charlies in triple-digit temperatures; the H2 doesn't care. He's hungry for big flies, big water, and even bigger fish. Give him what he wants. Proudly made in Manchester, Vermont, USA.

Why would we take the world's best fly rod and change it? The answer is simple. We're driven by constant improvement. Put this rod in your hands and feel the rush. You'll completely understand.

      Outstanding - 8/28/2015
      By: from St Petersburg

Not just a great rod but great service. I took the upgrade having broken a Clearwater rod and had 5 star service from start to finish. Have to say the Clearwater for the price was a wonderful rod but I've moved to the gulf from freshwater, the Clearwater was jammed in a door that slammed behind me so no fault of the rod, Wt 8 -9ft- flex tip is just shooting line and begging the reel for more, need to take it easy with the double haul. I want a Wt 6 now.

Noticeable difference. Killer rod. - 8/12/2015
      By: from Baton Rouge, LA

I put off buying the H2 for a couple of reasons: first, it's a pricey rod, and second, I was pretty happy with my Sage Xi3 and my Orvis Access 8 and 9 wt. rods. On my recent fishing trip to Destin, FL I was using the Sage Xi3 9 wt and my son the Access. On the second day of fishing the Access snapped. We went to the Orvis store in Destin where I plopped down the difference to upgrade to the Helios H2. Back on the water two hours later I was hooked. You just can't tell how great the H2 is until you are on water. WOW! For the rest of the trip I relegated my son to the Xi3 and I kept the H2. The feel, the distance, the tracking.... I've never cast a salt water rod that even came close. Even quick direction changes from far to close distances are effortless. My Xi3 doesn't compare. Finally I get the feel of a high-end trout rod with the power of a salt rod--something I just didn't think possible before I got the H2.

      best - 4/13/2015

I own and have owned several fly rods. some customer, some Sage. The Helios 2 is the best casting 8 wt I have ever thrown. I have broken a few over the years with falls and accidents. the warranty is the best in the business. This rod is a perfect choice for windy conditions . I have fished from the bahamas for bones, spring wyoming for trout and Alaska for bows and silvers, and this rod can handle all of it with pleasure. Worth the investment!

      Best 8wt ever PERIOD - 1/2/2015
      By: from Mty, Mexico

I bought this rod towards the end of 2012, but I did not wanted to make the review until I had made this rod bend more times that I could count. I am a serious fan of g loomis and sage but when it comes to eight weights, nothing replaces my helios 2. I have caught hundreds of bones, bass, trout, boxfish, snook, tarpon, 2 permit, snapper, bluefin trevally, triggerfish and this rod has never let me down. I have recomended this rod to anybody that needs a new 8wt or that is just looking for fly rod awesomeness. Great job orvis!

      One Sweet Rod - 11/8/2014

I bought this to fish for silvers and chums around here. This is one terrific rod. Easy to cast but terrific line speed. The light weight makes it feel and cast as if it were a 6 weight. Like my other Helios 2's, this is going to be a long-term fishing companion for me. Well done, Orivs - again.

      Rockin' the Helios - 5/21/2014

First, I must mention that I have been a Sage fan for a long time (I own 6 rods). I would never knock Sage, but this Helios rod might. Upon opening the box I first noticed the handsome looks of this rod, it is an outstanding piece of craftsmanship. I could not wait to get this rod on the water so I immediately gave my self the day off. I went big right out of the gate with this rod - spring pike. Hucking hefty pike bunnys and baitfish patterns was a cakewalk with this Helios 8 wt. Accuracy was spot on and hook sets were fast and powerful. This rod delivers the goods and has a strong backbone for turning and horsing in the baddest of the bad in the river. That said, I believe this rod will probably make me a better FFisher. A perfect rod for the good, the bad, and the ugly.

      Love this Rod - 8/26/2013

I love this fly rod. I fish the southeast wisconsin for smallies, carp, steelhead, salmon. They are no match for this rod. It is so light, yet extremely powerful and accurate in casting. The casting is so smooth and when I hold it, it feels as light as my 6 wt winston gvx rod. This rod lives up to it's hype of being extremely tough as well. I accidentally slammed my car door on it and my heart dropped south, but it didn't break at all and still works like a charm :)

      Wonder Rod - 7/25/2013
      By: from New Brunswick, Canada

Bought this combo last month and just recently got to give it a try. This is a very, very nice piece. I had the ZG before this and the helios 2 performs even better, if that's possible. Big eastern canadian salmon are easily wrestled in with this rod. A+ in my book!
