Hinge pin failure -
By: Wedge725 from Cordova TN
This wonderful looking door gate has been in use for four weeks. Yesterday the lower hinge pin fell out of the wood gate bottom edge into the metal frame. The pin is too short to reach the bottom of the inside of the frame. This would stabilize the hinge. Friction in the hole of the wood edge is the only way it is held in place. After this short time the hole diameter increases leading to this failure. I had to drill a large hole in the bottom of the metal frame to retrieve the pin. I have now glued the pin in the wood hole. All this action took over three hours. Hopefully this fix will survive and I can keep this beautiful door!
Bought it again -

We bought the gate for our 13 year old Golden Retriever who is blind and has trouble navigating the distance between the front door and the stairway going downstairs. After a few tumbles down we bought the gate to block the opening. The quality of the gate is top rate, being extremely sturdy and we love the attractive look as well. We bought a second gate for the stairs at the lake.
Great sturdy gate for smaller dogs -

The gate is very sturdy and looks beautiful. However my chocolate lab learned to open it in the first hour. She also tried to chew the wooden slots to get out. So I would only recommend this gate for a smaller dog that cannot reach the handle latch and for a dog that is not a chewer. She also somehow gets her body over the gate so a taller gate is needed for a big mischievous dog like mine.

I bought this gate twice for my Boston Terrier; one is used on her room door & the other at the bottom of a staircase. I bought the gates because I am about to have a baby & want to keep my dog in certain areas away from the baby. I chose this gate for it's elegance & the fact that it's height is higher than baby gates. So far it has worked well; it's super easy to use. I have only added some sticky dots to the gate to prevent it from marking my door or wall when it swings open. Happy with the product overall.
Great Purchase -
Much like Orvis' clothing, this gate is made of quality materials and looks great. It's perfect for keeping our puppy in the kitchen during dinnertime.
Nice but poor quality -
By: Denverpups from Denver, Co
I really liked the simplicity of this product. It was ready to go straight out of the box, no tools needed. Brilliant. However, the wood part, the 'gate' was really poorly put together, poor quality. The pieces fell apart almost immediately after I had it installed. It was easier for me to fix it then send it back. Maybe. I'm still worried about touching it too much for fear it will tumble into pieces. Fingers crossed. Also, make sure you're fine stepping over the bottom rail before you purchase it. I wanted it for the top of a stair well, and still am a bit unsure of having to step up to go down. Hopefully no guests ever miss that bar and fall. Otherwise, it's an attractive piece.
Great Gate! -
This gate is made of high quality materials and looks great in my home, which was important to me since I wanted to leave it intact permanently. The ability to have it open or closed without putting it up or taking it down is so nice. It was easy to install on my own and required no tools. I was a little concerned that my 7-pound maltese would be able to squeeze through the bars, but so far so good (and she is pretty skilled at escaping from confined spaces)!
Looks good and works well. -

This gate looks great in person. It was very easy and quick to install. Simple to operate and sturdy. I would definitely purchase again.
Excellent, but with a caveat -

Overall a very nice barrier, but if you have small dogs and a door on the wider end of the width ranges a dog can indeed wiggle through at the sides. We resolved by buying two 1" square oak rods, drilling them to accommodate where the adjustable supports come out of the sides, staining them to match the wood on the gate, and installing them with plastic spacers to set the correct spacing.. Once complete, it looked like a million $$ and works like a charm!. Perhaps Orvis will come up with appropriate extensions for an otherwise excellent product!
Extremely Happy Customer -
This gate is solid and well-designed. It looks great, too. Installation was simple. Purchased this product on sale when I was prepared to pay full price. Bonus!
