Beartooth Plateau Outfitters offers backcountry horseback pack trips into the million-acre Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and Yellowstone Park. The elevation of our Elk Park base camp, which is located in the Beartooths, is around 8,000 ft. There are literally hundreds of pristine, high alpine lakes and streams in the Beartooths. We will be fishing from 8,000 ft. up to 10,000 ft. This remote area is only accessible by horse or on foot.
Our season runs from July 1 through Sept. 7. The days are long and temperatures can range from 40 degrees F at night to 80 degrees F during the day. Rain showers can occur at anytime.
Our typical pack trip is a 5-day (4-night) trip. We also offer 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day pack trips. It is about a 2-hour horseback ride from the trailhead to our base camp. Each morning, after a hearty breakfast, we pack a lunch and take a day ride to different fishing waters.
We have a comfortable wilderness base camp equipped with wall tents and cots for our guest to sleep on. Wholesome meals are cooked over a campfire.
