Our trips provide much variety in region and terrain. The exciting lake fishing for rainbows at Moose Lake, the float plane fly outs for trout in the Blackwater River, Entiako River, and Upper Dean River, the fly outs for salmon in the Kitlope Park and the Fiordland Park and Great Bear Rainforest are some exciting choices. Terrain ranges from 3,500-foot elevation at Moose Lake to sea level at many salmon rivers. The flights to the salmon rivers are spectacular, with glaciers and waterfalls in full view. We often see moose and bears and mountain goats during the flights.
Our rainfall is sparse to moderate. Daytime temperatures range from 50-60 Fahrenheit in June, to 70 in July and August, to 60-70 in September.
Moose Lake has a high population of wild, native rainbows, and is centrally located to encourage fly-outs to many wilderness parks, enabling great variety in the fishing adventures. Species available in the many rivers we fly out to are: rainbows, cutthroat, steelhead, chinook salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon, chum salmon, and pink salmon.
Guests at Moose Lake have the choice of 3- to 7-day packages, and may specify fly outs to specific rivers on certain days. Others guests will just purchase a package that includes fishing in Moose Lake and then purchase fly outs to the rivers when they choose during the stay.
Blackwell’s Dean River Lodge camp schedule is more rigid, with only six anglers per day guided on the river, two guides to assist you, and a jet boat to move anglers to the runs. The steelhead package is very popular because of the very strong fish and the worldwide reputation of the Dean River. During late August and early September we fish for coho salmon in the Dean River and we fly out to other rivers. Fishing may be walk-wade and in some instances it is rafting assisted by helicopter.
