Capt. Steve Horowitz fishes year-round.
A full array of fly and spin tackle are on board for each angler's preference. I feature the Helios fly rods for all species, and all flies are provided. I also provide quality West Marine offshore-type rain gear, and I carry a Florida Vessel Fishing License which covers all anglers on board. You do not need to buy a fishing license.
I exclusively fish the waters of Biscayne Bay. This is a body of water that is bordered by Miami Beach to the north and Key Largo to the south. This is roughly 30 miles. All the waters from Key Biscayne south to Key Largo are part of Biscayne National Park.
Even though it's Florida you can get cold fronts come through the winter months and mornings of 45 degrees are possible. Spring and fall's average daytime highs are around 80. Summer temp highs are around 90. We are surrounded by water, which helps to moderate the extremes for both winter and summer.
Half-day trips are around 4 hours.
3/4 day is 6 hours.
Full day is 8 hours.
All of my charters start at Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne. This is about 20 minutes from Miami Beach. Half-day trips can be tailored to take advantage of the tides when that is optimal.
Tarpon are here from December through August. Bonefish are year-round. Permit are here all year as well, but the best months are April through July. Sharks and barracuda are year-round. Fishing the channels between the flats for jacks, Spanish mackerel, pompano, bluefish, etc. are best from November through April. Grouper and snapper are year-round.
Anglers should have appropriate footwear, polarized glasses (copper tint), clothing, and a hat. We also recommend having a wind/Gore-Tex type jacket, sunscreen, and camera. If you want to bring your own tackle please do so, but check with me to make sure it's appropriate for the species we are going to be fishing for.
Q. Where is the closest airport?
A. The closest airport is Miami, 10 miles away. Consider flying into Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood airport, which is 30 miles away. It is very user friendly, and car rentals are right in the terminal. You may find better flights for both price and connection.
Q. Where should I stay?
A. There are a multitude of hotels available from Miami Beach to Coconut Grove/Coral Gables. On Key Biscayne there are only two places to stay: The Ritz Carlton and the Silver Sands Motel. Both are minutes away from Crandon Park Marina.
