We are available year-round for guided fly-fishing trips, fly-fishing instruction, and casting lessons. Our fly-fishing trips start in early April and end usually in December.
The finest Orvis equipment is available for our clients on both our salt- and freshwater trips. Included are the leader and tippet material and additional flies if needed. On our full-day trips, non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, and a full lunch are included. On half-day trips, we provide beverages and snacks.
The Jersey Shore gives the walk-and-wade angler several locations to fish for striped bass, bluefish, and fluke. We fish the back bays, rivers, beaches, and jetties depending on the bait and fish location, tides, and moon cycles. We concentrate from Sandy Hook south to Island Beach State Park. The Upper Delaware River is a tailwater system and we pick the best river, East Branch, West Branch, or Main Stem, to fish depending on the water conditions in regards to temps, flows, and insect hatches.
Our weather patterns are typical eastern United States seasons. Winters are usually cold (December through March), spring is usually cool (April to May), summers hot (June through August), and fall warm (September through November).
We can meet on the beach or clients can be picked up if down on the Shore on vacation or coming in via the train. Casting lessons are one hour, half-day trips 4 hours, and full-day trips 8 hours. Depending on the location and species, we fish 24 hours a day, with start and stop times pre-dawn and into the night. We are very flexible and will do anything we can to meet a client’s needs.
In the early spring, it's fly fishing for wild trout on the Upper Delaware; spring into early summer it’s striped bass and bluefish along the Jersey Shore; during the summer it's fluke and bluefish; early fall it’s a mix of trout on the Upper Delaware and striped bass along the Jersey Shore; and then late fall into winter it’s the fall run for striped bass.
We will contact our clients prior to the trip and go over a gear list depending on the type of trip we are doing. Safety is the most important, but second is comfort. So the right footwear, clothing, and rain gear is needed.

My brother and I went out for the first time fly fishing with Colin in October 2014. Colin was very helpful with selecting equipment and very knowledgable of local rivers and creeks.
Great Rewarding Day!! -
By: HappyV from Rumson, NJ, USA
Spent the morning on the Raritan Bay with Colin Archer (aka The Average Angler.... more appropriate - The Exceptional Angler!). The amount of information and experience that I gained on this trip solidified how much I love fly fishing. I made tangible progress with Colin's guidance and advice. Thank you Colin!
