Overview

Capt. Tom Hughes has been fishing for over 30 years. In 2000 he started guiding on the Maryland Sector of the Chesapeake Bay. He specializes in teaching everything needed to catch striped bass, bluefish, white perch, and other saltwater species on fly or light tackle fishing equipment. Full or Half Day Trips are available from April 1 through December 15.

What is Provided to Customer

Fly Fishing or Light Tackle Equipment, Flies, Lures, Licenses, Sealed Waters, and Lunch (full day trips). Everything needed to have an enjoyable fishing outing on the Chesapeake Bay.

Region/Terrain Where You Fish

Right now - Throughout the Middle Section of the Chesapeake Bay. Striped Bass in the mid range are blitzing at the mouth of the rivers. Topwater and sinking flies can be very productive this time of the year.

Coming up - In Mid November through December large striped bass come into the Lower Sections of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River. You'll be fishing on some of the largest stripers that enter the Bay. Topwater and sinking flies can be very productive this time of the year.

Mid April and early May at the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay, the Susquehanna Flats, where anglers have the opportunity to catch that once-in-a-lifetime striped bass on topwater.

In May through November, trips on the Upper or Middle Chesapeake Bay in the state of Maryland become available.

Capt. Tom has the flexibility to fit your needs in any of the above trip locations.

Typical Weather by Season

Right now - Air Temperatures range between 40 and 60 degrees. Layer up with warm cloths and bring a rain suite. Trip Time: 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Coming up - In Mid November through December air temperatures range from 35 and 55. Layer up with warm cloths and bring a rain suite. Trip Time: 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Susquehanna Flats season (April to Early May) - Average air temperature is 60 degrees. Rainfall: moderate (please bring a rain suit). Trip time: 6am to 2pm. Water temperature is from 45 to 65 degrees.

Upper and Middle Chesapeake Bay season (May 6 to Dec) - Average air temperature is 86 degrees (May to October). Rainfall: moderate (please bring a rain suit). Trip time: 7am to 3pm. Water temperature is from 85 (July) to 47 (December) degrees.

Itinerary

Sample of Typical Itinerary

Full-day trips: you can be on the water for a maximum of 8 hours. Half-day trips: you can be on the water for a maximum of 4 hours.

Everything is provided: fly-fishing and light tackle equipment, flies, lures, licenses, cold waters, and lunch on full-day trips.

Susquehanna Flats season: full-day trips only, for 1 to 3 anglers. We will meet in Havre de Grace, Maryland at Tydings Marina. My boat will be at slip 358. A map with directions will be provided.

Upper and Middle Chesapeake Bay season: half-day (4 hours) and full-day (8 hours) trips for 1 to 3 anglers will be available. Meeting location is flexible and between the Inner Harbor of Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland.
