River Run Outfitters is in operation seven days a week. We close for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Starting the new year off right is spending it on the water.
All trips include everything the angler needs except a fishing license and trout permit. These run $7 for the fishing license per day and $7 for the trout permit, which is annual. Rods, reels, waders, flies, and all terminal tackle is provided, as well as soft drinks, water, and light snack on half days. Full days include lunch.
Lake Taneycomo is a tailwater fishery. It is an impounded section of the White River. Because it is a tailwater below Table Rock Dam, it is subject to flow changes when there is a need for electrical power or flood control. Most of the best fly-fishing area is easily accessible for walk/wade, or small boats via paved roads on the Missouri Department of Conservation property. In the event of a change in flow due to release of water, a horn will be blown to alert fishers of the change.
This area receives all four seasons. However, we are just far enough south that the winters are generally pretty mild. January and February are probably the two coldest months, but single digit temperatures, especially for any period of time, are rare. Spring, late April and May, are usually the rainy months, with temperatures in the 50s. Summers can be brutal, with temperatures in the 90s to 100s. Fall can bring some rain, especially late September into October, when the brown trout run is starting to take off.
We offer half-day and full-day walk/wade or a combination of wade/drift trips. Many times there will be light-to-heavy generation from Table Rock Dam. We are experienced at handling all the variables this lake/river has to offer. The only time we will not get on or in the water is when there is lightning.
Taneycomo is stocked full of rainbow and brown trout. Best time of the year to catch a nice brown will be fall when they have their fall spawn run. Our rainbows spawn both in the spring (late March into April) as well as fall (late September through October). Primary hatches on Taneycomo are midges. We do get some small mayfly hatches, but the best mayfly hatches are further down stream out of the prime fly-fishing area. Summer months can provide some beetle and ant action. Mid-summer into fall, we will be looking at hoppers.
Customers should bring a camera to capture that special moment or fish. Everyone must have eye protection. If you wish to wear you own gear, Missouri has banned the use of porous-sole wading boots. If you have rubber-soled boots with studs, no problem. All guides have heavy rubber mats on the floor or their drift boats. Winter, spring, and fall, especially in the early mornings, can be cool on the lake/river due to fog, so layer. There is plenty of room in the drift boats to store extra clothing.
We try to accommodate the needs of our customers, especially those taking full-day trips where lunch is provided. If a person has certain dietary restrictions or needs, please let us know and we will do the best we can to accommodate you.

Great operation thanks to Carolyn and Stan. Stan put us on fish right away even though water flow was at flood stage and rain was falling.
Best Taneycomo Guides -
Like always, Jim put us on fish no matter what the water or weather conditions are. Jim is always willing to take the time to pass on his knowledge and experience. I would recommend River Run Outfitters to anyone wanting to fish Taneycomo.

1st Fly Trip / One more fish!!! -
By: BZFirstTrip from Taneycomo
This was my 12 yr old son's 1st Fly Fishing trip that I got him for his birthday. Our guide Gina was perfect for Zach. She was very patient and taught him the basics. I could not have asked for any better experience for my son. We caught fish all day, ending the day with "One Last Fish" a Trophy 22" long 16 inch girth, 7.4 lbs Rainbow. I would highly recommend Gina and River Run for your next Fly Fishing Trip.
Great two days -
By: DavidBruce from Lake Taneycomo, Missouri, USA
Great two days with large numbers caught on midges, crack backs and Prince nymphs. Day two found high water flow age and much more challenging, but that's part of the fun. Still caught many fish. Plan to return in the Fall for the Brown run!
Jake and I really enjoyed our guided drift boat trip. Darrel got us on fish using nymphing , and stripping streamers and cracklebacks. Also, he gave us some useful tips...

River Run Outfitters fitting fly fishing dream -
By: Masterkeyer from Branson, MO, USA
From the moment you call to arrange a trip you are caught. The walk up the steps to the store is the hook setting and then you are caught up in the dream that is fly fishing. These folks are all "one of a kind". Techniques, casting, equipment preferences, tying and giving out free advice, when asked on the lake, come easily to each of them. It is catching. It is a hoot. It is a bucket list item checked.
Wonderful Spring Morning! -
By: Lindsey1883 from Springfield, MO, USA
My dad and I used River Run Outfitters this past Saturday for my first time fly fishing at Taneycomo. I loved it! We had a half day with Stan. I caught one on my second or third cast and it continued most of the day. Stan obviously knew what flies to use and where. Not only did I have a blast but I learned alot too. I can't wait to fish Taneycomo again and this time with much more confidence in my fly fishing abilities.
