With the Bighorn River being a tailwater fishery, we fish all year. However, our peak season is April 1-November 15.
Outfitting trips will include shore-side lunch, all your fishing flies for the day and all terminal tackle. We also have Orvis rods, reels, and waders if you need.
Our typical day starts with meeting clients, discussing their desires and experience. If needed, we give casting lessons on the lawn before heading to the river. This is key for beginners for a successful day. The morning meeting time is 8am and we will go over the planned float for each day.
We fish for brown and rainbow trout. In early spring the midge fishing is good. In late spring we fish the baetis hatch on cloudy days. Mid-summer we have the best luck with pale morning duns and the hopper hatches are great. Early fall we fish hoppers, caddis, and tricos.

Great Fishing Experience -
By: from New York
I have been visiting Montana for over ten years. First with my father and uncle, now adding my oldest son. The Forrester family has always extended to us warm hospitality, amazing food, comfortable lodging and first class guided fishing on the Big Horn River and Cloud Peak Wilderness. What started out as a father/son trip, has developed into a father/uncle/son/grandson experience. The food is amazing with incredible presentation. Fishing on the Big Horn with the Forrester guides is second to none. And the Cloud Peak Experience is difficult to put into words. Forrester's has a perfect location high up in the Big Horn National Park mountains where Nick Forrester makes everyone feel like part of the family. Great cooked meals over the campfire, sleeping out under the stars, horseback riding to small streams and lakes is an experience I look forward to each and every year. I highly recommend Forrester's Bighorn River Resort and the warm hospitality of the Forrester Family.
