Our operation is open all year long.
For our guide trips we provide all of fly rods, reels, terminal tackle, flies, food, and drinks (non-alcoholic).
We mainly fish on the Pere Marquette River, which is a medium-sized river that flows around an average of 600cfs. There are a lot of logjams and overhanging trees, which makes it a great river to hold big fish. Most sections of the river you are able to wade through. There are a few large clay banks and little hills but for the most part the land is fairly flat with hardwood tree. We also offer guide trips on the Muskegon River and the Big Manistee River during the fall and spring. All three of the rivers are very accessible. They have two tracks that lead to access points on the river and also have roads that lead to boat launches as well. You are able to get to the access points with really any type of vehicle about 90% of the time. The only time you would not be able to get to the access points is if there are downed trees or during the winter when we have a heavy snowfall.
Here in Baldwin, Michigan we have all four seasons. During the summer months it can range from 70 to 100 degrees during the day and at night from low 40s to the 70s. We receive a good amount of sunshine and can get a good amount of rain; however, there have been some small droughts. During our fall seasons the leaves change and the river glows with the beautiful colors. The fall is a great time because you have all of the beautiful colors of leaves, warm temps, not a lot of rain, and a lot of big fish in the river. It can get up to 80 degrees and get a little chilly at night, but once the sun comes peeking out over the trees it warms right up. Winter is a time for diehards; it can get to -15 degrees outside. Then again, it has gotten up to 50 degrees before. Most of the time it is colder than warmer. With that all being said, it is beautiful up here with the snow-covered ground and the snow in the trees. Then we have the spring season, the snowmelts, water and air temperatures are climbing, and the steelhead start flowing into the river in good numbers. It can be fairly cold in the morning and warm up to t-shirt weather in the afternoon. We normally do get a good amount of rain in the spring, so you want to make sure you have your rain jacket, but more rain means more fish in the river which leads to better fishing.
We give you a call two days before your trip and confirm that the start time your guide gives us works for you. Start times vary by what species of fish you are fishing for and the season of your trip. Then, the day of the trip you meet your guide at the fly shop, load up the boat, and head to the river for a day to remember. If you are on a half-day trip, the guide will have snacks and refreshments on the trip. If you are on a full-day trip he will have snacks, refreshments, and cook you a gourmet meal right on the river. Our guides also supply all of the fishing equipment that is needed. The only things they don’t supply are waders, hats, and sunglasses.
During the summer we fish for rainbow trout, brown trout, few brook trout, and skamania steelhead. For the fall we target king salmon, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Late fall through the winter we target steelhead, brown trout, and rainbow trout. During the spring season we target steelhead, brown trout, and rainbow trout.
For a guide trip you will need to bring your waders (if you do not have waders, we do have waders you can rent), clothes for the appropriate weather, hat, and sunglasses.
We have a one-stop fly shop at the lodge and carry everything from clothes to licensees. If you don’t know if we will have what you are looking for, just give us a call before you get here and we will order it for you and make sure that it is here by the time you arrive. We have a 10-bedroom lodge, 5 cabins right by the river, and 2 houses right on the river. If you stay in the lodge we offer continental breakfast and there is always coffee in the fly shop.

Always a pleasure fishing the Pere Marquette with Chris Raines, Uber, as our guide. I, we, will be back. Beautiful scenery, water, and great fishing.

My son and I had a great time, great guide (Frank Willetts) for our first time floating the PM. We walked away with knowledge gained on rigging, casting and fishing. No steelhead, but I caught a brown and rainbow. My son didn't catch anything but the fever....the fever to go again and to keep fishing/practicing. He loved everything Frank offered and especially the grilled steaks. Thanks again Frank! Jerome's stickers are already on his jeep, and he can't get back on the water soon enough. Thanks again, Brian

This was my first guided float trip even though we have been fishing the PM for years. The staff is always great. Frank Willetts was an incredible guide. Funny, patient, and professional. The day was terrific! My thanks.

A Float Back In Time -
By: Ffisher from Baldwin, MI 49304, USA
The Pere Marquette is where I proposed to my wife and made the best catch of my life. We decided after just celebrating 25 years of marriage to revisit the Sand Hole on the PM since it was the place I asked the "BIG" question. Chris "Uber" was our guide for the day and he floated us down the PM. He was great, we both enjoyed his company and his understanding of our request. I liked him so much I booked a future Trout Trip with him through the shop..
Fun with Frank -

A late entry...Girls away Mother's day weekend so my 16 year old son and I spent an afternoon and evening with Frank. We are both relative beginners and appreciated Frank's excellent instruction on various fly fishing techniques. He was beyond patient with our frequent mistakes and errant casts. We tried for a few straggler steelhead, some big browns, and went mousing after dark. We were amazed by Frank's skill in negotiating the river both in daylight and after dark. My son managed to hook a few big fish but as this was not our day, we didn't land any. With or without landing a fish, this was a great day filled with good company, fascinating stories, and a wealth of learning. We had a great time and plan to return this fall to bring one in!!

Awesome float trip with Frank. Son and I floated Pere Marquette with Frank on June evening and again one day later in the morning. We tried our hand at night time mouse fishing and streamer fishing. My son caught beautiful steelhead on morning float trip. Great meals, great instruction, and great Fathers Day.
BEST GUIDE EVER! -
Had the pleasure of being guided down the Pere Marquette River fly-fishing by Chris "Uber" Raines. Hands down best guide ever! I would rate my experience with him 6 stars out of 5 if it were possible. Great guy, very personable with extreme knowledge and expertise with all things fishing. I would highly encourage anyone interested in fly-fishing to do it with the Pere Marquette River Lodge with "Uber" as your guide he's awesome!
