New Zealand Strike Indicator

This wool strike indicator offers the ultimate in sensitivity and subtleness.

Presentation is perhaps the most important part of catching fish. When fishing nymphs beneath an indicator in front of spooky trout, having the perfect indicator could be the difference between landing a giant and going home disappointed. This is the best indicator we've found. Easy to attach and remove, this kit includes an applicator tool, a sampling of white and chartreuse wool, and 12 inches of size small replacement tubing. It's subtle as it lands on the water, sensitive when fish touch the fly, and won't get bogged down with water. Combo pack now includes four colors of yarn (black, white, orange, chartreuse.) Size large tubing is used to make larger indicators, size small is used to make smaller indicators. Imported.

The wool is unsinkable after hours of fishing. I'd buy another from Orvis anytime.

Great for slick water & spooky fish - 11/30/2014
    By: from Asheville, NC

This is a great finesse indicator for pressured fish. Love that you can adjust size. Works great on still, or relative gentle water. Football type indicators or Thingamabobbers are better for faster flowing broken water or heavier (multiple) flies. Lands softly. Will often use in cold weather, low/clear conditions in lieu of dry/dropper rig.

    Worth Trying - 11/10/2014

First, I'm just getting back into fly fishing after a 12 year layoff. So, there's lots to relearn. I highly recommend you try the New Zealand Strike Indicator. I've always liked how yarn indicators cast vs the bubble kind. My issue with other yarn indicators, the pre-made ones with a rubber loop, they are difficult to remove and/or reposition. Not a problem with the New Zealand Strike Indicator! There is a little bit of a learning curve. I highly recommend you practice before hitting the water. I purchased the larger tubing after I found the tubing that came with this product to be very small in diameter. As a result, you must use a very small amount of yarn. You can stack both sizes of tubing on the needle. Just place the smaller tubing first and slide the large ones over the top of the smaller tubing. A few suggestions... Pre-cut pieces of yarn, apply Gink, & place in a plastic baggy. Just toss in the needle as well. At times, the tubing can slip off.

Indicator is easy to put on leader , Highly visible ,easy to adjust for depth , and it can be taken off without any damage to leader .Only drawback is you have to trim to length , which means carrying scissors to trim .

    Just Buy This !! - 9/7/2014

The regular tubing works perfectly with nymphs as large as #12. The larger tubing works great for larger flies. Use floatant. Just buy this product. It WORKS!!

This strike indicator worked as I expected, easy instalation and floated well. I fished the indicator with only a small amount of yarn and a #12 hares ear, ended up catching a bunch of small trout. Adding a drop of floatant to the yarn will increase the floatibility. The only somewhat negative thing I noticed was when you slide the indicator up to the thicker section of leader it stretches the tubing and can cause it to crack, but the package included tons of tubing so it doesn't bother me.
