This luxury field coat offers a distinctive take on a traditional favorite. The ultra-soft 100% wool is complemented by a muted, earthy plaid. The leather collar is a nice stylistic touch, not found on other field coats and the other leather ribbing/trim is subtle touch. The dual button and zipper design offers added protection against the wind as well as closure options. Well-positioned, slanted hand warmer pockets are functional and blend in nicely with the coat's design lines and the large cargo pockets with button closures are perfect for storing gloves, stocking cap, or scarf. The quilted interior offers polyester insulation which feels substantial enough to handle winter's cold. In addition, the glossy finish on the lining makes for easy layering with other woolens--they just glide over the material. The one thing I would change would be the button styles. The round, plastic Orvis buttons appear cheap and out of character. Leather buttons should be expected on a garment of this quality and price. Sizing is worth noting. I am a reliable 44R so I purchased the Large. True, it fit as a jacket offering only enough room for a light sweater vest. Knowing that I wanted to wear this as a winter coat and not just a jacket, I tried the XL and that proved to be the right choice, providing PLENTY of room for layering without looking overly large. In fact, I was able to try one of my thick, Irish sweaters underneath and there was no problem, no arm movement restrictions or billowy looking body. This brings me to the final feature that I truly appreciated. This coat comes with a two-button adjustment in the back, allowing you to "take it in" about an inch or "let it out." A built-in tailoring feature. With the Large I kept it out but with the XL I took it in and that's what kept the coat from looking too large. Great design! Yes, the coat is pricey but its quality, style, and functionality all are tops. I'm looking forward to winter!

    Oh my... - 7/10/2014

...what a beautiul coat. I just opened the box and it is magnificent. A little creasy from storage, but it will break in I'm sure. This is a big, soft, warm winter coat. More substantial than the picture would suggest, and impeccably made. My jacket size is 43 Long, dress shirts are 16x35. I am 6 ft tall with long arms, and the Large fits perfectly. Plenty of room inside and the sleeves are long enough for me. I can't think of anything else to gush about. This purchase is very, VERY satisfactory!
