Small canyon streams, quiet back eddies and high mountain rivers ask for perfect presentation. This is not the place for the "big guns." This is the realm of accuracy, delicacy, finesse. Small waters and dense cover demand a perfect presentation, and with classic fiberglass actionsoft and forgiving this is the rod for your small-stream adventures. The 7-foot 3-weight is perfect for the smallest of streams and the most confined conditions.
Get ready to change the way you feel. We've applied modern Orvis taper design principles to a classic rod-building material to produce a 3-weight fiberglass fly rod that's smooth and slow, yet crisp and strong. The Superfine® Glass throws dry flies with a balanced touch and will even sling streamers when necessary. With unsanded S-2 fiberglass blanks, uplocking cork and silver reel seats, and a hard chrome Litewire stripping guide, no details were spared in the making of this soon-to-be classic. Proudly made in Manchester, Vermont.

Fantastic Rod -
By: Ziggly from California
I purchased the 7 foot 3 weight outfit. The rod is fantastic, loads well at short and long distances. Very accurate. Nymphs are tough to cast, but that just might be the rookie in me. I fish mostly dry flies. Great for streams. Can handle small, medium and large trout with no problems. The battenkill reel is very nice. Lightweight and small. The superfine line is good, lands softly on the water so as not to spook skittish. However, the line is very fragile and frays very easily. Line gets a 3 star rating, rod and reel get a 5. Definitely worth the money. I had some issues with my order but the orvis customer service is great, each person I spoke with was friendlier and more helpful than the last.
Great Fly Rod Purchase -

I purchased the Orvis Superfine Glass 7’ 3wt rod for panfish and small stream trout. Once again, the crew at the Arlington store provided noteworthy service. Getting the rod home, I paired it with a CFO II spooled with a 3wt Superfine Hydros and headed out to a neighborhood pond. Casting ability is the feature I like most about this rod. The action is slow yet the rod communicated just the right feedback to help me adjust quickly. After about 30 minutes my timing was on, and I began to experience the rod’s pinpoint accuracy. Where I could get a back cast along the pond’s wooded banks, 30’ plus casts ended with a bluegill bug plopping right in-line with the rod’s tip top. Roll casts were equally accurate. By the way, I am a moderate skilled caster and in my rush to get this rod on the water, my bug, leader and tippet set-up was not ideal, which highlighted the rod’s casting forgiveness. Hooking-up and landing several large bluegills was a blast; sets required a positive lift of the rod and I could feel every head shake during the fight. Later in the day I lawn-casted with a better matched terminal set-up and confirmed the rod’s casting performance and accuracy out to 45’. There is nothing I dislike about this rod; the blank, grip, hardware and finish are all first rate, as are the tube and sock. I took advantage of the Orvis web site to register my warranty. I would definitely purchase this rod again, and I look forward to using it on small stream trout soon.
Gotta Have Glass -
Got the 7' 3wt. A great rod for accurate casts in tough-to-reach pools. If you fish small trout streams with tight access, a rod like this is a must! Beautifully balanced, and casts farther than a little rod like this has any right to. Once I got the hang of the slower action, I could drop a fly with pinpoint accuracy. Looking forward to going out again with this rod!

The rod’s progressive taper seems as if designed to drop a small nymph or dry fly into a shot glass at 40’ to 50’. I’ve tested this Superfine Glass with specific targets on calm days and with wind gusts quartering over the casting shoulder. Learn to load it and the accuracy “sweet spot” will astonish you. As you are likely experienced with graphite, I recommend slowing down your timing just a little and observing that back cast until you feel the superfine load some energy. Accuracy will develop in less than a dozen test casts. Superfine Glass features an attractive olive-toned un-sanded blank with contrasting brown silk wraps and a retro-style model designation near the grip end. The cigar –style tapered cork grip is classic and composed of premium-quality cork with no “filler”. The up-locking reel seat hardware is attractive and efficient. An attractive labeled bag and matching color olive fiberglass tube complete this premium quality package at a competitive price. I’d like to see an 8’, 6-7wt. Orvis glass rod with similar taper characteristics so we could bully big farm pond bass in Superfine Glass style!

I just received this rod on Tuesday and was lucky enough to be able to break it in on Wednesday. I have always fished either moderate-fast to super-fast action rods so this was definitely a change of pace for me. To sum up my experience with this rod, this was easily the most fun I have ever had fishing a new rod. The sensitivity and capability to punch out 50+ ft casts with a double nymph indicator rig, completely amazed me! The first fish I landed was a 5 -6" wild bow and I was shocked that I could feel every head shake with this small fish. Even though I was completely isolated, I think I actually chuckled out loud when I eventually hooked into and battled a 20" wild bow before netting. Three different other anglers saw me carrying this rod and one even commented "you're bringing a knife to a gun fight". The comments were understandable considering the fish this creek was known for but I had no problem handling both the 20" wild hen bow as well as a 17" wild buck. I can't remember when I've had as much fun fishing with a fly rod. All of this for half the price of most of the leading fast action rods on the market!

An outstanding rod from Orvis. Tossed some casts on a Thursday evening store event, bought the rod on Saturday. Being in Texas, now have to wait "patiently" for the snow melt in Utah and Pennsylvania. Superb small stream rod !

I bought this 7' 3wt superfine glass today at my orvis location in Charlotte, NC. Needless to say, I spent a hour casting this rod in the lot behind the store. Not because I needed to be convinced to buy this rod, but because I didn't want to stop. I bought this rod and casted at home on my dock for another hour. Thanks Orvis! And special thanks to Trey Oliver @ Orvis Charlotte for being so helpful and putting up with me casting my arm off in the rain.
