Details

Crafted for fine presentations, realistic dead drifts and versatility. Our classic fiberglass design is offered here in a 4-weight, the most versatile rod weight for many anglers. With enough backbone to cast small wet flies or nymphs while still maintaining sensitive, delicate presentations for dries, this is a perfect rod for those looking to add the first taste of fiberglass to their quiver.

Get ready to change the way you feel. We've applied modern Orvis taper design principles to a classic rod–building material to produce a 4–weight fiberglass fly rod that's smooth and slow, yet crisp and strong. The Superfine® Glass throws dry flies with a balanced touch and will even sling streamers when necessary. With unsanded S–2 fiberglass blanks, uplocking cork and silver reel seats, and a hard chrome Litewire stripping guide, no details were spared in the making of this soon–to–be classic. Proudly made in Manchester, Vermont.

      A New Classic - 1/12/2015

You guys in R&D really outdid yourselves this time. I've loved this rod since I had the chance to cast a prototype. One of my favorite older rods is an early-70s Orvis Full-flex fiberglass rod -- a real joy to cast and to fish with -- and you've captured the classical features of that vintage glass rod. I love the cork reel seat, the brushed aluminum hardware, and the unsanded finish. But I have to confess that, as much as I love the action of the older rod, the Superfine Glass is a far superior casting instrument. I pair both of them with a CFO reel (American or English, your choice), and a Superfine line. Nice work, guys; sweetest stick on the market.

As an add on to prior comments, this little rod can handle big fish. This morning caught a pretty rainbow measuring just over 21" on this rod with 6x tippet. Fishing a #16 holy grail behind a bead head brassie with an indicator. Rod did a great job protecting the light tippet and was a blast to play a fish of that size. It does have reasonable limitations; doesn't like much wind, doesn't like split shot; but that's really not what it was intended for. What fun rod for great presentations on small water but capable of fighting a 3 lb fish.

      Surprisingly versatile & a blast to fish - 11/30/2014

What a great little rod! Loads easily & makes delicate presentations w/ ease. Obviously well suited to dries in close but versatile enough to fish a small tandem nymph rig w/ indicator or small cone head bugger. Unbeatable out to 30'-40' which is 95% of my fishing (WNC small streams, blue lines, delayed harvest & TN smokies). Worth more than what I paid. Lots of fun to fish!

This rod is a beauty. I have fished it many ways this past 6 months. The casting is awesome. The rod throws line further than anticipated. It also held up to very large rainbow. I will most likely buy the 5wt some time in the near future.

      Phenomenal - 8/25/2014

Just returned form a week in Montana/Wyoming fishing everything from Paradise Valley spring creeks to Yellowstone back country pocket water. I took 3 rods on this trip and everyday found myself reaching for my 4wt., Superfine Glass with DT Hydros line on a CFO II reel. This rod exceeded my expectations which were pretty high and was a true joy to catch fish ranging from 6" brookies to 18" cutthroats. It is now my go to rod for medium to small water. An absolute home run. Well done...
