Nicely tied and looks very well made. Have to wait and see how material tied over hook eye affects how it floats in stream. very stiff material. Like the looks of it though.
heavy weight stonefly nymph -

Good fly. Catches the largest trout in the river provided it is sunk deep and presented with dead drift. Please use a definite golden dubbing when tying this fly, as was the case in the past.

This is a beautifully tied fly. On a recent trip to the Pigeon river in NC I was very anxious to use it even though smaller midge and stonefly patterns were being productive. At the end of the day I decided it was time to try it out. I tied it on and was very pleased with the weight of it. It cast well and got down deep as advertised. On my second drift through a deep run I got a very hard take from what turned out to be a beautiful wild brown trout. I had caught 10 decent but stocked rainbows and specks along this same stretch throughout the day -- this large, weighted and realistic stonefly pattern convinced the big brown to come out of his comfort zone to eat. Naturally, I recommend this fly. The realism comes at the expense of durability. The delicate wings were gone after 2 casts and one fish. While worth it, I would expect slightly better durability. I will buy more of them, but ultimately I will try to try to tie a similar but more durable pattern of my own to match this fly. Overall I highly recommend, but be aware this fly won't last.
