150th Anniversary John Bull Train Model

Antique Model Train

A very special edition antique model train, held exclusively for Orvis customers in commemoration of our 150th anniversary. Entirely handmade, this exceptional 1:32 scale engine is an authentic model of the "John Bull" and tender, America's oldest surviving locomotive. Made in England in 1831 by Robert Stephenson and Company, it was the first locomotive made for New Jersey's Camden and Amboy Railroad; hence it's number #1. The John Bull was removed from active service in 1866 and is now on display in the Smithsonian Institution. The museum fired the locomotive up in 1981 for its 150th anniversary, making the John Bull the oldest operable steam engine in the world. This outstanding model train is a worthy tribute to the engine's craftsmanship, made by the world's finest model train maker. Every detail is exactly right, even down to the scaled period-authentic railroad bridge. Model train size is 19½"L x 4"W x 9"H; overall display case measures 24"L x 7"W x 11"H. USA. Availability for this item is extremely limited.
