Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great School - Great Setting!! As a beginner/novice fly fisherman, this 2 day experience was perfect! It was educational and inspirational as well as providing on-water experience to put techniques learned in the classroom to good use. John is an exceptional crew leader/teacher, and both he and Mike brought their years of fly-fishing guide experience to the fore. I would highly recommend this class to anyone desiring to learn fly-fishing and wanting to further their skills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fly Fishing at it's best! We attended a one day Fly Fishing school at the Biltmore last week. Our instructors, John and Andrew, were fabulous! We definitely learned more than the basics. Very thorough instruction. Nice mix of classroom and outside hands-on learning. Will definitely be back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great staff and content as expected. Group of three with no fly fishing experience. Late August 2020 for two day course on Biltmore grounds. Three in our group and total class size of 5 limited to possible six due to COVID. Class in air conditioned 1860's farm house. The house had a large yard area for practicing casting and small lake with shore and classic boat drifter used for course. Classroom lecture and videos. Equipment all provided and all Orvis. Met at Antler Village Outdoor for registration and then bused to farm and class instruction. Short bus ride to lake water both days of the course. Learned multiple cast techniques, equipment use and needs, bugs, stream info, and hours of casting practice with two instructors at all times. Last day boat used for lake fishing. All five students became proficient in knowing and assembling equipment, casting, and even caught a few fish. Feel comfortable we could go, with experienced fly fisher, to streams or boats. Great Experience! Best part of the weekend were the instructors. John was with us both days, Andrew the first day, and Mike the second day. Two instructors were always present with the group, offering advice, and correcting problems. We could not ask for a better group of instructors. I would recommend the location and these instructors to anyone at the entry level or to anyone who has not had some formal instruction about fly fishing. Great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I had hoped for and more! Having no experience with fly fishing, I attended this school hoping to learn the basics as I near retirement. John, Jules, and Andrew were awesome. Their instruction was easy to follow and they spent plenty of time with each of us individually--never appearing to be rushed or impatient. I learned so much and am totally addicted--even after just one day. I should add that the Biltmore Estate is a wonderful setting in which to take this class.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from one of the most enjoyable experiences ever John and his crew are outstanding in every way. They really know how to teach and make it fun. They had a diverse group of students-a 9 year old , a young adult and several of us senior citizens, both male and female. Everyone learned a lot and seemed to have a great time. Several students were beginners and I have fly fished for many years. The crew was able to meet all of our needs. They really helped me to improve my casting and presentation. Biltmore estate is one of the most beautiful places on earth.Even the lunches were top notch. I would highly recommend this to anyone, beginners and experienced fly fishers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great couples' experience When my college girlfriend's dad wanted to break up the relationship he asked me to teach her to drive a stick-shift. When my wife said she would like to learn to fly-fish i told her, "Honey, I've taught a lot of people how to fly-fish, and I will find someone just as good to teach you!" The guys at the Biltmore did a great job: very knowledgeable, patient, good presenters, good casting instruction. And of course the location and accommodations at the Biltmore were very luxurious. She got a hot stone massage massage after the first day of casting, which isn't the worst way you could think of to delete all the new muscle-memory! And working with a pair of good teachers is a good way to improve your own teaching techniques.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great experience with the Orvis School at Biltmore I carried my daughter who is a complete beginner with me to the Ashville school at Biltmore for a one day course. Both the instructors were excellent. They had us both casting well in one day, and we had a lot of fun while learning. We both enjoyed it so much that we plan to return later. John and Dustin are both great representatives for both Orvis and Biltmore Estate.
