The Story

Fly-fishing guide Capt. Martin Carranza offers a unique approach to flats fishing in Southeast Florida. Based in Miami, he can reach the best fishing spots, depending on species preferences, weather, and tide conditions. A Patagonia, Argentina native, Capt. Martin has more than 40 years' experience in fly fishing and light tackle. He has guided in Patagonia (Argentina and Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela, and since 2001, in Florida.

Biscayne Bay near Miami is one of the best places in the world to catch record bonefish, permit, and tarpon. Other available species include snook, barracuda, mackerel, grouper, snapper, and many more that will take your fly or lure.

Islamorada is the center for giant tarpon in super shallow water. From April until July, we can do single- to multi-day trips. From Islamorada, we are just a short ride away from the fabled Everglades.

Fluent in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and English.

What to Bring:

  • Quick-drying clothes
  • Light rain jacket
  • Amber-colored sunglasses
  • Prescription medicine, if required

Gear Recommendations:

FLY FISHING: 8 to 12 wt. rods, matched with WF floating and intermediate tip lines. Leaders 7' to 12' depending on depth of water, size of flies and target species

CONVENTIONAL: 7' to 71/2' rods for 12-20-30 lbs.

List of flies and lures upon request.

Bonefish, Tarpon, Redfish, Snook, Permit, Speckled trout, Grouper, Snapper, Barracuda, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Jacks, Black Drum, etc.

April to June: Giant migratory Tarpon season!

Season:

We fish year round though some species are seasonal.

Spring/Summer: Tarpon, bonefish, permit, snook, redfish, speckled trout, barracuda, jacks, grouper, mahi mahi, and more!

Fall/Winter: Tarpon, bonefish, snook, redfish, speckled trout, barracuda, mackerel, bluefish, jacks, black drum, grouper, and more!

Region/Terrain:

Flats, flats and more flats!

We also do some light offshore when conditions are right.

Typical Weather:

SE Florida is a subtropical area with warm weather almost year round, except for a few cold fronts coming in the wintertime.

  • Half Day, 4 hrs $450
  • 3/4 Day, 6 hrs $550
  • Full Day, 8 hrs $650

Islamorada and Everglades National Park full day only $700.

What is Provided:

We provide all fishing gear (fly and conventional), unless you prefer to bring your own.
Lunch includes a sandwich with water and soda.
Fishing license available for purchase.
Extra rain jackets, polarized sunglasses, sun screen available.
