The Story

Visit the Orvis-endorsed fly-fishing shop at Chagrin River Outfitters and tool up for your angling adventure in Ohio. While we are known primarily for our excellent steelhead fishery, Northeast Ohio has plenty more to offer the fly angler willing to fish outside of the box. Smallmouth and largemouth bass, pike, musky, white bass, and carp are all available to keep anglers busy when the steelhead are not running. This diversity of species, combined with the variety of waterways in which to target them, has helped make our guide staff versatile and innovative, thus ensuring you a great experience on the water and leaving you a better and more knowledgeable angler than when you came. While we do like to get the net wet as much as anybody, our day is not measured in numbers or catch rates. We feel it is our job as guides to teach and promote the art of fly fishing and in the process have fun, educate, develop relationships, and yes, catch a few fish.

Full-service fly shop in historic downtown Chagrin Falls, Ohio, that carries all the best brands the fly-fishing industry has to offer. We are an angler-friendly shop that caters to all skill levels and interests. We are passionate about helping all our customers become better anglers and helping enhance their overall experience on the water, wherever that may be. Our staff consists of passionate fly anglers and tyers with experiences that range from the saltwater flats of Belize to the Atlantic salmon rivers of New Brunswick, from the trout streams of Montana to our own local steelhead and smallmouth rivers. There is not much in the fly-fishing world we have not experienced firsthand, and we pride ourselves in knowing we can assist just about any angler who comes through our doors. If you are looking to wet a line in our neck of the woods, give us a call or stop in. We would love to take you fishing or help you make the most of your next angling adventure.

From the first call or stop into the shop, we try to make your experience with Chagrin River Outfitters as seamless as possible. From scheduling the trip date, knowing who your guide is, and getting your gear needs situated, to meeting up on the water. We will make sure everything is in order well before you hit the water. If you need lodging or dining in the area, we can make a few recommendations there as well.

We are in the heart of Steelhead Alley (Southern Shoreline of Lake Erie from Cleveland to Buffalo) making us ideally situated to take advantage of the best rivers, runs of fish, and river conditions at any time at any place during the steelhead season. If steelhead are not on your radar and you would like to target bass, pike, or musky, you came to the right place. Our experienced guide staff excels at warmwater species and would love to float you down one of our scenic waterways. You may even find yourself fighting a nice northern or smallmouth bass on Cleveland's burning river.

Which season is best for which species?

Musky: Year-round though we do not fish the spawn around mid-April to mid-May and may shut down mid-summer if water temps get too high.

Can you provide tackle and waders?

We can provide everything you need; there is a $25 rental fee for waders.

How many anglers can one guide take?

We like to have one to two anglers per guide.

How large a group can you take/can you do co-corporate outings?

We can take up to 10 anglers on the river if guides are available and yes, we can do corporate outing guide trips, lessons, and Fly Fishing 101s.

Do you float or wade?

Steelhead trips are wade or float while bass, musky, and pike are all float trips.

I have never fly fished before, is that okay?

We welcome all skill levels with open arms. We all have to start somewhere, and we would love to help you start your journey. However, it is important to keep expectations reasonable based on skill levels.
