The Story

The Upper Delaware River System is a fly angler's paradise—steeped in the history of the earliest fly fishing in America, the Catskills are where it all began. The area offers many beautiful rivers to choose from, all offering excellent fish habitat and featuring varied species to hone your angling skills. Whether you fish the West Branch, the East Branch, or the Main Delaware, prepare to fall in love with the area and the fishery.

West Branch Angler Resort's upscale log cabin accommodations are nestled in a sprawling 300-acre park-like setting along a 2-mile private section of the West Branch of the Delaware River. Known as the Gateway to the Catskills, the surrounding mountain scenery and grounds are marvelous. Bigger and better than ever, the West Branch Angler was completely renovated in 2007 with 12 new cabins and new amenities such as wireless Internet access and a new pavilion. Whether you're fly fishing on the East's most productive wild trout fishery, shooting a round of sporting clays or taking a riverside hike on one of our groomed trails, it's no wonder that the West Branch Angler is known as the premier outdoor destination in the East. Conveniently located only a few hours from the major metros of the Northeast.

In this comprehensive school, you will have the opportunity to fish from drift boats or get out and wade for different species of trout including brown and rainbow. Learn how to catch trout in many different scenarios. You will learn how to fish with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers, how to read the water, and how to select the right fly. The skills and memories you gain here will certainly last a lifetime.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete Trout School I give the accommodations a solid 9 and the guides were very good. Unfortunately, I did not pay close attention to the detailed description but based on the title Complete Trout School, I believed it would be for more advanced fly fishing individuals. At the into meeting I learned that most of the participants were first time fly casters and had no knowledge of wade or drift fishing. Again my mistake for not looking into the program in more depth. Based on the class description I believed it would be for intermediate to advanced fly fishers and that more time would be spend on advanced casting, reading waters, aquatic life, etc. Most of it was spent in the classroom. The two days of drift fishing was just that, fishing. There was no instruction on reading the water, perfecting your cast, studying aquatic life forms and what the trout where feeding on during the on water time. I post to as a note to those interested in a more advanced school to research the program to ensue it meets your needs and desires. In closing the participants where world class individuals and I enjoyed my time with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from West Branch I attended the Complete Trout School at West Branch. There were 6 individuals at the school. The lodge is very nice inside and the amenities and food were very good. The Orvis host, Pete and Brandon, were top notch and made all feel welcome and did whatever they could to make sure everyone got as much out of the school as possible. The guide that I had Kevin was great on river during the two days of guided fishing. They offered advice and assistance where needed, but also let you learn on your own. I have very limited fly fishing experience and the help I received was enough to keep me fishing but also let me make mistakes and learn from the mistakes. West Branch is beautiful and a great place to plan a fly fishing trip. Thanks Pete and Brandon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just amazing ! What and amazing Trout School, I enjoyed every minute of it, learning a colossal amount of facts, science, tricks, tips, and also getting much better at casting and having so much fun doing all that. Special thanks to Peter, the wonderful conductor of it all.
