The Orvis Commitment

Orvis commits 5% of its pre-tax profits to protecting nature each year. Over the past 32 years, we have raised and donated more than $22 million to organizations and projects dedicated to the preservation of fish and wildlife habitat, and canine health and well-being. Through our signature Customer Matching Grants, we engage our customers in these projects and often match their contributions dollar-for-dollar. Here are brief summaries of the projects we have supported in years past:

Petfinder Foundation

The Petfinder Foundation’s mission is to ensure that no pet is euthanized for lack of a home. Founded in 2003, the foundation works with more than 13,000 animal-welfare organizations throughout the country. Orvis first began partnering with Petfinder Foundation in 2012, and they have become a perennial favorite with our customers. In 2018, the Orvis Customer Matching Grant program raised more than $165,000 to help support rescue shelters. The partnership will be extended through 2019.

Save Bristol Bay

Bristol Bay, AK is home to the last great wild salmon spawning ground on earth. Providing roughly half the world’s harvest of wild salmon, the Bristol Bay fishery supports 14,000 jobs in commercial fishing, sport-fishing, and tourism--industries valued at $1.5 billion. If built, the Pebble Mine would endanger an entire ecosystem as well as a sustainable way of life. Orvis is partnering with its customers and Trout Unlimited to preserve Alaska’s Bristol Bay habitat by stopping the construction of Pebble Mine. In 2018 Orvis and our customers donated more than $88,000 to preserve this environmental treasure. The campaign will continue through 2019.

Everglades Foundation

Since its founding in 1993 by a group of local outdoor enthusiasts, the Everglades Foundation has become a respected and important advocate for the sustainability of one of the world’s most unique ecosystems. Since 2017 Orvis has partnered with the Everglades Foundation on the Now or Neverglades campaign. We have won several important victories, including the successful passage of legislation to build a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee to restore the flow of fresh water to the River of Grass. More than $80,000 was generated for the Everglades Foundation in 2018. This partnership will be extended through 2019 to advocate for federal funding of the reservoir.
