Upper Manistee River, Michigan Fly Fishing Reports & Conditions
My tips of the week
Cold overnights, dropping water temps, and rain will bring baetis to the surface and brown and brook trout to gravel and improve the streamer bite. Trout season ended October 1, 2020 closing the water above CO612 to fishing and making the water from CO612 to CCC Bridge "Flies-Only" catch and release until the last Saturday in April, 2021. CCC to Tippy Dam Pond is open all year. You can purchase your 2020 "All Species" license and print it out on your printer or save the PDF to your phone.... The Upper Manistee is perhaps Michigan’s finest self-sustaining trout stream. More than 60 miles of wadeable water from its headwaters to the “flies-only” section downstream, make it truly Michigan’s most accessible fly angling water. Techniques & Tips

Look for blue-winged olives in the quiet water along the banks. Trout will accumulate in pods there and sip all day long as long as the clouds and rain continue. Don't be fooled... some large fish will feed in very skinny water on those banks. Streamer fishing early mornings will improve dramatically as brown and brook trout get aggressive and go to gravel with colder water and shorter days.

7-Day Forecast

Cold overnights and shortened daylight duration will improve the streamer bite. Go to zip code 49684 for latest weather at your favorite weather site.
