My tips of the week
There have been some closures up in the forest. Please check them out before you go. Also no camping, just day use up there. Forest is now requiring that you pay day use fees in some places.

Fishing Conditions

Fly Fishing Pecos River is currently Good

Visibility: 12 inches

Water temperature at mid-day: 60 Degrees F

Water condition: Clear

Best time of day to fish: Mid-day through late afternoon

Best stretch: Lower canyon, Villanueva

Best access point: Plenty of access throughout the river. Public fishing starts at Dalton Day use area.

Fly fishing hatches in order of importance:

Stoneflies, Worms, Caddis, Baetis, Eggs, Hares ear

Fish species: Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Rio Grande Cutthroat

Fishing season: Year Round

Nearest airport: Santa Fe

Techniques & Tips

Fishing nymph or a tung jig hares ear. Worm patterns are not a bad idea either. As the weather gets warmer midges and eggs will be the ticket

Pecos is fishing good, however there is no way that I would go on a holiday weekend. Fish on the weekdays until holiday weekend is over
