The Story

To create our moleskin shirt's supersoft—yet longwearing—hand, special looms tightly weave small threads (up to 280 threads per inch in the warp, resulting in a sturdy, abrasion- and wind-resistant fabric that is velvety soft. Woven in the UK at Brisbane Moss®, where they finish the process with a brushing that creates moleskin's signature softness. Our button-front shirt feels just right as a first layer against the skin or as a shirt-jacket over a T-shirt. In southern climates, this shirt serves perfectly as a jacket. Spread collar, two-button adjustable cuffs, and two patch pockets with flaps. Active Fit.

Pure cotton. Washable. Imported.

Sizes M(38-40), L(42-44), XL(46-48), XXL(50-52).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fab shirt This is a great shirt. Just don't tumble it as they shrink! (This is my second one which is how I know). Otherwise it rocks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Shirt First off, I think that a lot of the negative reviews didn’t notice this was “active fit” or didn’t look at the size chart before buying. I recommend you do that if you can’t try the shirt on in-person at a store. I knew my measurements and compared them to that chart and was extremely satisfied with the shirt. I love that it isn’t oversized like normal Orvis shirts are. I’m 5’7” and ~160lbs and a medium fits well as a base layer or over a t-shirt. It’s not large enough to wear as a jacket over anything thicker than a t-shirt but that’s fine with me. I wear it untucked. The fabric has stretch but it still quite wind-resistant, as advertised. While wearing it outside in the wind, I can feel the wind going through my jeans and hitting my legs while this shirt prevents that on my upper body. There is great range of motion for the arms too, despite not having a pleat in the back. I was worried about that but it turned out to be a non-issue. The only thing I would change would be to make the pockets slightly bigger.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely an "Active Fit" I ordered the shirt on Dec 5th and it arrived after Xmas. Despite that disappointment, I gave it to my boyfriend for his birthday today. I ordered a Medium. He is 5'8," wears a size 40 sports jacket and 32" waist pants. The Medium fits him fine, but he wouldn't want it any smaller. Because of the other reviews, we won't chance putting it in the dryer because there isn't room for shrinkage for him. The fabric is thick and soft; the olive is a nice rich color. The fit being what it is, I'm not sure I'd recommend to just anyone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I would have bought one in each color... I am a longtime Orvis customer & have not left a negative review on anything in the past but this "active" or skinny fit isn't working for a lot of us. I am 50, I wear a 50r suit, & I have a good deal of disposable income. I simply can not wear these cuts of clothing, they do not fit me (physically or style-wise). It's a beatiful shirt, but a shame on the cut!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Close to perfect Wonderful soft and rich fabric. The green color is classic. It’s a thick fabric befitting moleskin, therefore best worn untucked. The large on my 5’11” frame drapes perfectly but could be an inch longer. I would prefer the look of only one pocket and button down collars; regardless I’ll order the blue. Can’t see me in the red.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DISAPPOINTED This shirt does NOT meet the standards I normally associate with ORVIS. It is more than 2" shorter than the Orvis moleskin shirt (same size "XL") that I purchased a couple of years ago, the yoke is smaller & the front pockets are more narrow. If I bend over the shirt tail comes untucked. I really like my original ORVIS moleskin shirt but for the 1st time in many many years of buying clothing from ORVIS, I'm disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit and warm to wear The fit is perfect and the material, while heavy is really comfortable to wear and looks great on.
