Pyramid Lake is open to trout fishing from October 1st until June 30th.
Nestled in the Truckee River Basin, Pyramid Lake is a remnant of the ancient Lake Lahontan that covered most of northwestern Nevada. With Lake Tahoe as its headwater and fed by the majestic Truckee River, Pyramid is truly the offspring of beauty. The land where the lake resides is inhabited by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and has been since the 19th century. The Paiute tribes survived off of the Tui-Chub and Lahontan cutthroat (Oncorhynchus clarki henshawi) trout that populate this lake.

I recommend a 7-8 wt. rod and reel setup with WF floating line. Please do not bring anything less than a 6 wt. as it will be a VERY long fight with a big fish and extremely taxing to the fish and its health. If you like to strip flies, a 7-8 wt. with a fast-sinking head (5-10 IPS). Normally, a 300 to 350 grain line works best.
Make sure to bring polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and some warm layers.
