Learn how to become a complete trout angler at the new Orvis Trout School at High Lonesome Ranch just outside of DeBeque, Colorado, Located on the Colorado Rockies' Western Slope. High Lonesome Ranch offers a unique setting to learn how to catch trout with a fly. It's nearly 300 square miles of deeded and permitted lands stretch across mountain forests, grasslands, spring creeks, and alpine mesas make for an unforgettable Western fly fishing adventure.

The casual welcoming atmosphere of the Orvis complete trout school is available for all experience levels. Whether you are a beginner who would like to get into the sport, or a skilled angler looking to progress to the next level, we have the knowledge and expertise to help you on your way. Provide in this school will be all the newest Orvis equipment, fantastic amenities, gourmet meals using only the finest local ingredients, expert instruction from Orvis's top instructors and a beautiful setting for the ultimate Fly-Fishing School.

In this comprehensive school, you will have the opportunity to fish from drift boats or get out and wade for different species of trout, such as brown, cutthroat, and rainbow. Learn how to catch trout in many different scenarios. You will be taught how to fish with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers and learn how to read the water and select the right fly. The skills and memories you gain here will certainly last a lifetime.

Cancellation Policy & Fees:

If you must cancel your trip, refund fees are based on the cancellation date, as follows:

  • +90 days prior to trip - Full refund
  • 60-90 days prior to trip - 50% of trip cost
  • 59 days or less to trip - 100% of trip cost

9:00 Casting session/practice on one of the still water areas nearby
9:45 Discussion on reading a stillwater, locating fish, how to fish dry flies, nymphs, and streamers.
10:30 Students fishing Stillwater
Noon Lunch.
1:00 Casting session, students fishing still waters
3:00 Presentation on entomology, how to choose flies, how to read a river.
4:00 End of first day
6:30 Dinner

Day Two, September 4th:

7:00 Drive to K-T Ranch for Wade fishing on the white river
9:00 Discussion on fishing different flies, how to read the water

Noon Streamside lunch

6:30 Dinner/discussion of how the day went and planning for tomorrows float trip

Day Three, September 5th:
