The Orvis Colorado Fly-Fishing School is held at the Borders Lodge in Beaver Creek in the heart of the Vail Valley. Situated in the heart of the Beaver Creek Ski Resort, the Borders Lodge is located within walking distance of Beaver Creek Village. This secluded property is considered one of Colorado's best lodging options and is an ideal location to learn how to fly fish. The school covers everything from fly casting, choosing the right tackle, leaders and knots, to fly selection, and how to safely release fish. Cancellation Policy & Fees:
If you cancel your reservation outside of 30 days from your school date, Orvis will issue a refund back to your original method of payment. Cancellations within 30 days from your school date are subject to a 20% cancellation fee, and a refund will be issued in the form of an Orvis Gift Card. Orvis Gift Cards never expire and can be used to book your next school reservation or to purchase other Orvis product. School transfers are based on availability and can be done at any time (cancellation fees do not apply). Students that do not attend their scheduled school and do not notify the school reservation department will be charged in full.

9:00 Students caravan to the Borders Lodge.
9:15 Introductions and discussion of class program.
9:30 Video presentation: The Orvis Progressive Fly-Casting Method Part One and Two: Demonstration on the basic casting stroke, shooting line false casting, false casting and shooting line, and roll casting.
10:45 Report to casting area for demonstration on the basic casting stroke; students casting.
Noon Lunch (catered to school).
1:00 Classroom presentation: Knot-tying seminar. Discussion on leaders, hands-on know tying.
1:15 Report to casting area for demonstration on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting; students casting. Videotape students casting.
4:15 Return to classroom for closing statements, and graduation certificates.
4:30 End of school.

10:30 Video presentation: The Orvis Progressive Fly-Casting Method Part One: Basic casting stroke.
10:45 Report to casting area for demonstration on the basic casting stroke; students casting.
Noon Lunch (catered to school).
1:00 Video presentation: The Orvis Progressive Fly-Casting Method Part Two: Shooting line, false casting, and roll cast.
1:15 Report to casting area for demonstration on shooting line, false casting, and roll casting; students casting. Videotape students casting.
2:45 Classroom presentation – knot-tying seminar, discussion on leaders and hands-on knot tying.
4:00 Presentation on equipment and accessories.
4:30 End of first day.

2-Day School: DAY TWO

Time Activity & Description
9:00 Classroom presentation on entomology, fly selection, and how to choose and fish flies. Tips on how to handle, photograph, and release fish.
9:45 Video presentation: The Orvis Progressive Fly-Casting Method Part Three: The double haul. Video analysis.
10:45 Report to casting area for demonstration on the double haul; students casting. Demonstration on hook-setting and fish-fighting techniques.
Noon Lunch (catered to school).
1:00 Orvis-Endorsed fishing trips and tips on fishing with guides. Discussion on wading safety.
1:30 Eagle River trip – Discussion on reading water. Demonstration on fishing flies in moving water. Students fishing.
3:30 Return to classroom for closing statements and graduation certificates.
3:45 End of school.
