South Dakota's fall waterfowl licenses are allotted via lottery draw and we want to be sure to assist anyone interested in joining in the action this upcoming waterfowl season! Applications open mid-June and close first week of July. If you missed the deadline, please contact us to inquire about leftover licenses or other hunting opportunities!
We are more than happy to complete applications upon request. You will NOT want to limit your options this Fall. If you have any questions or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us! We look forward to visiting with you!
South Dakota currently restricts non-residents from simply purchasing a license to enjoy our fall duck hunting. The state currently maintains a lottery draw process which is conducted during the summer months. Waterfowl licenses are limited and issued by lottery, which in turn restricts non-residents from finalizing travel plans before the final draw in the end of July. It's a hard concept for many to embrace and we are putting forth our best effort as we continually propose amendments towards legislation that will not only increase licensing opportunity for non-resident hunters, but also benefit the entirety of South Dakota. That said, we hope you will consider applying for the fall license to demonstrate a substantial desire to enjoy the resources our great state has to offer. Please do not let the application process discourage you. I complete 95% of all hunter applications and am more than happy to do the same for you.

The only responsibility you have as a hunter is to show up. A large majority of our hunts take place in dry corn fields where you will be outfitted in layout blinds. We take pride in our ability to scout, set and execute a successful hunt. Our guides have been hunting for years in South Dakota, and by knowing the lay of the land and having unsurpassed hunting expertise, we are proud to provide quality waterfowl hunts in both the fall and spring.
"The Dakotas are key in American waterfowl production, and we are grateful to be able to share unique experiences while creating unforgettable memories with hunters from all around the world."
The Flatland Flyways Lodge is the place to be for that great escape you have been waiting for. Just because you are hunting does not mean you have to rough it! Our accommodations are geared to handle a maximum of 12 guests. Six double-occupancy rooms are divided into two wings extending from the great room. Both wings have a bathroom with double stalls and a deck for your groups privacy.
Located on the hilltop you will be able to see for miles and overlook the 21,500-acre Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The lodge provides breathtaking views of the flocks of mallards, pintails, canvasbacks, Canada geese and snow geese as they make their move over the shallow wetlands and lush grasses. The large windows allow us to admire the spaciousness of the South Dakota prairie. Closing the evening with a peaceful fire on the back patio on a cool, Fall or Spring night does not get much better in South Dakota. Along with an excellent place to unwind and build lifelong friendships, we can guarantee you will leave with stories to tell.
We can guarantee you will not go hungry. We strive to source fresh, local food whenever possible, hoping you will be hard pressed to decide which was better; the food or the hunt? Any health needs or dietary requests can be met upon request. Brunch and dinner are provided each day as well as a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks. Throughout the day home-made cookies and bars, fruit, and a bar mix that is available on the buffet.
