About Our Fly Shop

We try to accommodate the needs of our customers, especially those taking full-day trips where lunch is provided. If a person has certain dietary restrictions or needs, please let us know and we will do the best we can to accommodate you.

Sample of Typical Itinerary

We offer half-day and full-day walk/wade or a combination of wade/drift trips. Many times there will be light-to-heavy generation from Table Rock Dam. We are experienced at handling all the variables this lake/river has to offer. The only time we will not get on or in the water is when there is lightning.

What Should Customers Bring?

Customers should bring a camera to capture that special moment or fish. Everyone must have eye protection. If you wish to wear you own gear, Missouri has banned the use of porous-sole wading boots. If you have rubber-soled boots with studs, no problem. All guides have heavy rubber mats on the floor or their drift boats. Winter, spring, and fall, especially in the early mornings, can be cool on the lake/river due to fog, so layer. There is plenty of room in the drift boats to store extra clothing.

Species You Fish for by Season

Taneycomo is stocked full of rainbow and brown trout. Best time of the year to catch a nice brown will be fall when they have their fall spawn run. Our rainbows spawn both in the spring (late March into April) as well as fall (late September through October). Primary hatches on Taneycomo are midges. We do get some small mayfly hatches, but the best mayfly hatches are further down stream out of the prime fly-fishing area. Summer months can provide some beetle and ant action. Mid-summer into fall, we will be looking at hoppers.

Region/Terrain Where You Fish

Lake Taneycomo is a tailwater fishery. It is an impounded section of the White River. Because it is a tailwater below Table Rock Dam, it is subject to flow changes when there is a need for electrical power or flood control. Most of the best fly-fishing area is easily accessible for walk/wade, or small boats via paved roads on the Missouri Department of Conservation property. In the event of a change in flow due to release of water, a horn will be blown to alert fishers of the change.

Typical Weather by Season

This area receives all four seasons. However, we are just far enough south that the winters are generally pretty mild. January and February are probably the two coldest months, but single digit temperatures, especially for any period of time, are rare. Spring, late April and May, are usually the rainy months, with temperatures in the 50s. Summers can be brutal, with temperatures in the 90s to 100s. Fall can bring some rain, especially late September into October, when the brown trout run is starting to take off.

Date Range

River Run Outfitters is in operation seven days a week. We close for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Starting the new year off right is spending it on the water.

What is Provided to Customer

All trips include everything the angler needs except a fishing license and trout permit. These run $7 for the fishing license per day and $7 for the trout permit, which is annual. Rods, reels, waders, flies, and all terminal tackle is provided, as well as soft drinks, water, and light snack on half days. Full days include lunch.
