The Story

Enjoy the expertise of Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter Ryan O'Shaughnessy on your wingshooting trip to Alpine, Texas: "Our main focus at West Texas Quail Outfitters is not simply the harvest of quail. We strive to offer our clients an experience they will never forget. We offer an appreciation for the resource, the scenery, the dogs, our friends, and the quail."

We are a 100% wild bird operation. As such, success on the hunt will depend on the weather, the breeding season, and most importantly the dedication of our clients to finding the birds. This is not your pen-raised preserve hunt. We typically walk 10-12 miles in a day after these desert quail. However, nothing can prepare you for the thrill of coveys of 20-plus wild scaled quail, Gambel's quail, or Mearns quail flushing in front of dogs steady on point. We never 'double book' our hunts. If you make a reservation with us, we guarantee you will be the only group hunting quail on one of our leases for the duration of your stay. Our leases range from 23,000 to 85,000 acres in size, offering a combined total of ~6500,000 acres of exclusive quail country in Texas and New Mexico to our guests. Come join owner and lead guide Ryan, along with Josh, Cody, and Zach for your exclusive hunt for desert quail on your Southwestern quail hunting adventure.

We think our guests offer the best explanation of why you should hunt with us:

"This is one of the most organized, exceptional bird hunts in all of North America. Total joy for the pure wingshooter."

"Southern hospitality meets the luxury of an African safari is the best way to describe hunting with West Texas Outfitters. Ryan has great leases full of quail and watching the dogs do their magic provided a trip full of memories!! From the moment I contacted Ryan to discuss a hunt, until the moment we wrapped up the hunt, I was treated with absolute professionalism. Ryan always takes the time to explain the how and why of the way we hunted and his ability to educate allows his clients to learn as they hunt. After a morning of chasing those little running birds, you are treated to a five-star lunch cooked by Ryan's wife and expertly served in a safari-style setting. First-class operation !!!!"

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.
