Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Lodge in northern Saskatchewan

Wollaston Lake Lodge

In the remote reaches of Canada's serene northern wilderness lies one of the best freshwater fisheries in the entire world - the incomparable Wollaston Lake. More than 100 miles long and 400 feet deep, Wollaston and its surrounding lakes attract seasoned anglers with vast populations of trophy fish of four distinct species: northern pike, lake trout, arctic grayling and walleye. The Grand Slam of freshwater fishing.

And the magnificence of the fishery is matched only by the beauty and comfort of its premier destination — Wollaston Lake Lodge. Situated at the mouth of the Umpherville River, the Lodge is a spectacular retreat that is fully staffed to meet your highest expectations—and then some. Whatever your needs, you will be treated to an experience that you'd expect from any exceptional destination resort.

Region/Terrain Where you Fish

Wollaston Lake, located in far northeastern Saskatchewan, Canada, is one of the world's natural treasures. This 800-square mile lake is home to some of the largest Northern Pike and Lake Trout found in the world. Walleye and Grayling, in impressive numbers and size, are also found here. It is a wilderness fishing dream. In the world of fishing, only the beauty of the surrounding forests and the warm and friendly atmosphere of Wollaston Lake Lodge can come close to complimenting the quality of the fishing found here. The management and staff have a single goal: to make your Wollaston Experience the most pleasurable and memorable of your life.

Wollaston Lake's 800-square miles of cool, clear water plunges to depths down to 400 feet. Numerous rivers pour highly oxygenated water into the bays. These factors, along with a tremendous forage base, which helps our fish grow to such legendary size, provide the perfect habitat for our northern pike, lake trout, walleye and arctic grayling. These four species make up the Grand Slam of freshwater fishing. It is incredibly rare to find all four of these highly sought after species in the same lake anywhere in the world, much less Saskatchewan. With twenty additional fly-out lakes and rivers, the possibilities are countless.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to come?
Our highest number of fish per boat normally occurs in the first half of our season. The ‘nicest’ weather seems to occur during July with August seeing us catch our heaviest northern pike of the season.

I’d like to learn how to fly fish, Can you teach me?
Absolutely! Our guides are very well versed in teaching guests the basics of fly-casting and fishing. These pike are voracious feeders and readily attack the fly. For advanced anglers, specific techniques can be worked on and improved.

Are gratuities customary?
Like most lodges, our guides are normally tipped by those guests they guide directly. We recommend 10-12%. Our shore-staff personnel pool their tips and divide them evenly. We recommend 4% of cost of the package.
