The Story

Go fly-fishing in New York's Catskills with Orvis-endorsed guide Rick Watson. Guided fly fishing on the Upper Delaware River system is considered the best technical dry-fly fishing in the east, if not the country. This world-famous river system, set in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, boasts a healthy population of wild brown and rainbow trout. Whether the complete novice or seasoned fly fisher, we will custom tailor a float or wade trip to fit your individual needs.

Season:

Our trout season typically starts by April 15, but depending on the weather could start as early as April 1. Smallmouth bass fishing begins in late June and continues to the end of September.

Species:

Wild brown and rainbow trout, smallmouth bass.

Region/Terrain:

The Upper Delaware System offers 80 fishable miles of premier wild trout water. This is big river fishing, generally fishing from a drift boat, although there are wading opportunities if desired.

Early Spring: Air Temps 20 - 40°
Spring: Air Temps 30 - 50°
Late Spring: 30 - 70°
Summer: 40 - 90°

Weather can change drastically throughout the day. Having multiple layers and rain gear is a must.

What is Provided:

Fly rods and reels along with all terminal tackle, flies, and beverages are provided. Full-day trips include lunch.

Gear Recommendations:

9' 5 weight fly rods with floating line for trout.
9' 7 weight fly rods with floating line for smallmouth bass.

What to Bring (Additional):

Rain gear and sunglasses.

Additional Activities:

Grouse and woodcock hunting starting October 1 - February 28. There are also endless hiking and mountain biking opportunities nearby.
