Over three decades ago, Orvis embarked on a mission to make planning a world-class fly-fishing or wingshooting experience easier for our customers. We sought out the best operations and worked alongside them to perfect their systems, their facilities, and most importantly, the associated customer experience. The result was the Orvis-Endorsed Program.
Each endorsed partner has its own character—and therein rests its strength—but all share the same high standards: exemplary service, outstanding fishing and wingshooting opportunities, respect for natural resources, and an experienced, professional staff.
Each year representatives from this remarkable network of outdoor leaders within the Orvis-endorsed family are recognized as the best of the best. At root, these accolades represent the consolidated sentiments of the customer, as the feedback we receive about a customer experience is the ultimate arbiter of success.
This designation also speaks to an operation's environmental commitment, stewardship of their associated natural resource, and partnership with Orvis in providing the finest fly-fishing and wingshooting experience possible for the Orvis customer.
2018 Fly-Fishing Lodge of the Year:
"This was my second trip and my father's third. We brought my two sons ages 18 and 15. It had been over 10 years since we had been there and we were afraid our stories had been exaggerated over the years. We were all blown away once again by the friendly service, the quality of the fishing, great amenities, and superb food. There were also little touches like being personally greeted by the owners at the dock after a day of fishing, coffee delivered to cabin every 5:30 AM, free laundry and a video in our cabin scrolling pictures from my trip 12 years ago. They have a customer service culture that rivals the best of the 5 star hotels. The highlight of the trip was without a doubt the guides...Tyler and Dan. They adapted the days to our level of experience and never stopped trying to make each moment enjoyable. We had a lot of fun even when we weren't catching fish but we caught a lot of fish. Each guest we spoke to had the same to say about their guides so I don't think we got lucky...it’s just how everyone operates. We will be back!"LEARN MORE
2018 Wingshooting Lodge of the Year:
"My brother-in-law and I chose this Lodge and arrived with very high expectations. As we approached the main Lodge and drove alongside rows of trees and well-maintained fields, we felt the stress of our busy lives leave us. The ranch is organized and thoughtfully designed. The service is warm and personal, yet professional. The guides are incredibly friendly and tremendously knowledgeable. After a long day of enjoying hunting, we came back to the Lodge to find the fireplace aglow! This Lodge deserves its multiple Orvis highest endorsement! We highly recommend! We are definitely coming back with our families!"LEARN MORE
2018 International Destination of the Year:
"I have fished all over the world and stayed at many lodges and this destination was in a class of its own. I received an incredibly warm welcome from a team of fantastically knowledgeable people whom open all the secrets of this wonderful place. To top all this off, comfortable rooms, touring options for non-fishing exploration, 5-star food and wine served with so much attention to detail. Our only regret is that we did not have enough days to explore and experience more, but we are already planning our return."LEARN MORE
2018 Outfitter of the Year:
Mt. Shasta, California
“Thanks to this Outfitter, I am forever haunted by waters. From my first day on the river with my dad, I've always felt a profound and deep connection to rivers. This Outfitter has not only taught me the art and magic of angling, but also share the same spiritual connection between land, water, fish and people. The skills I have built and continue to build are because of their incredible talent and beyond excellent customer service. They fully embrace all group sizes, provide fun for the whole family, and accommodate personal preferences like no other, while also offering delicious, well-founded food and snacks (critical to river life). They have expanded who I am and who I wish to be, both on and off the river.”LEARN MORE
2018 Wingshooting Guide of the Year:
“I've hunted with guides across the globe. Some have been great, some have been ok, some I won't see again. It's hard to say exactly what makes a perfect guide, but I think this individual sets the bar. You want a guide that enjoys the hunt, loves the thrill of the chase, could spend all day afield with you and the dogs... but also a person that realizes he and his team have a job to do. Have fun, keep you safe, find you birds, respect the land and the kill. This guide is that guy.”LEARN MORE
2018 Freshwater Fly-Fishing Guide of the Year
Broken Bow, Oklahoma
"My husband and I hired this guide for a fly fishing trip, and we could not have chosen better. Prior to this trip, I read books and researched online about the art of fly fishing—our guide was better than any book that I could place my hands on. They have an extensive knowledge of this sport that really impressed us. Not only were they friendly, outgoing, patient, cautious and smart, they were so eager to make our experience first class from beginning to end. I also believe that they are the perfect guide to get more and more women involved in the sport of fly fishing because of their demeanor and grace. We are booking our next trip today because we had such a wonderful time."LEARN MORE
2018 Saltwater Fly-Fishing Guide of the Year:
Everglades National Park, Florida
"My Husband and I always wanted to fly fish this area and viewed it as a bucket list trip. We have read and seen videos on this area and wanted to experience it firsthand. The most important thing for us was hiring the right guide for the job. Capt. is a true pro and was an excellent guide. He put us on fish all day long and really improved both of our casting. Safe to say he is a great representation of Orvis!"LEARN MORE
2018 Fly Shop of the Year:
"I have been a customer of this business and I can say that they are a great resource for fly fishermen all over the south. The shop is well stocked with everything you need for a trip and the staff is knowledgeable and willing to help. I highly recommend taking one of their guided trips, as I have learned more in a few hours with one of their guides than I have picked up on several trips by myself. Everyone at this business fishes and it shows; they always know the best places to fish and what flies are hot. We are truly fortunate to have them in our region."LEARN MORE
2018 Orvis Lifetime Achievement Award
For over 40 years, Sandy Moret has been a tireless advocate for the complex ecosystem of Southern Florida. In 1972, Sandy was living in Miami when his friend and fellow angler Flip Pallot invited him to Flamingo Key. Sandy fell in love with the region immediately. It didn’t take long for Sandy’s passion for saltwater fly fishing to inspire him to take action to preserve this spectacular environment. He formed the Everglades Protection Association with a group of like-minded fishermen and served as the group’s first President. Their efforts resulted in a ban on commercial harvest and gillnetting within Everglades National Park.
In 1985, Sandy moved to Islamorada in the Florida Keys, where he founded the Florida Keys Fly Fishing School and then The Florida Keys Outfitters Fly Shop. This full-time engagement with the Florida ecosystem compelled him to become one of the founders of The Bonefish and Tarpon Trust in 1997, an organization whose mission is to conserve and restore bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries and habitats through research, stewardship, education and advocacy. In 2000, he added the Everglades Foundation to the impressive list of organizations he supports and speaks out for.
Over decades of teaching, guiding, and exploring the waters of the Gulf, Sandy observed firsthand a steady decline in water quality and the mismanagement of natural resources by the Florida state government. By 2015 he was out of patience. He knew a powerful coalition was needed. Sandy rallied an army made up of organizations that represented an impressive range of interests—from non-profit environmental organizations to big and small business, both local and international—to form Now or Neverglades. Over the past 3 years, more than 130 organizations and 72,000 signatories have offered support. The determination of this impressive coalition brought statewide awareness that prompted important, history-making legislation to be passed mandating construction of a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee to store, clean, and carry fresh water to the south.
Sandy Moret has offered his skills as a teacher, guide, businessman, angler, advocate, and leader to the cause of preserving the resources that he loves. Sandy is the first to acknowledge that he will likely not see the benefits of his hard work in his own lifetime, but he presses on regardless, working hard to ensure that his grandchildren have fresh water to drink, fish to catch, and the Everglades to enjoy.LEARN MORE
