Region/Terrain Where You Fish

Seven Springs Mountain Resort is tucked away on 5,500 acres surrounded by Forbes State Forest in southwestern Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands. The property is home to more than 50 spring-fed lakes and ponds, offering a diverse environment for trout, bass, panfish, and pike. We offer guided stillwater fishing on property for largemouth bass, as well as walk-and-wade trips to the Youghiogheny river tailwater, backcountry brook trout fishing, and access to limestone waters of central Pennsylvania.

Typical Weather by Season

Our fishing season typically starts in March, with low flows and early season hatches. Spring fishing peaks in May and June on the freestone streams, with mild temperatures and great flows. Summer temperatures are mild at our elevation and guests can beat the heat on the mountaintop. Fall brings some of the best fishing of the year with low flows and gorgeous mountain scenery providing the perfect backdrop for a fishing excursion. Fall color typically peaks the second week of October, and our fishing season is generally over by Thanksgiving.

Species You Fish for by Season

Early season trout fishing usually involves streamer fishing in stained water or fishing weighted nymph rigs. As the water temps warm up, we can expect to see most popular mayfly and caddis hatches on the freestone streams in the area.

Summer provides terrestrial fishing and strong caddis hatches on the Youghiogheny tail water. Mid-afternoon dry-fly fishing on caddis can be fast and furious, followed by nice evening hatches of small mayflies.

Bass fishing on the property lakes starts in early June with surface activity picking up nicely by the 4th of July. Evening popper fishing can be great for some trophy largemouths well into late summer.

Fall’s cooler weather puts the trout back on the feed with some of the biggest browns of the year being caught in October and November.

What Should Customers Bring?

Seven Springs’ guest are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes for on-property fishing trips and comfortable shoes and socks for off-property excursions. Don’t forget your camera, sunglasses, sunscreen, and all necessary medications, etc.

Trips last around 4.5 hours and a boxed lunch or lunch at the Sporting Clays Grille is provided.

Full-day trips provide an angler with a full 8 hours on the water and a boxed lunch. All guests will meet their guide at the Sporting Clays Lodge and are asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
