Day 1: Arrive at Alaska's Boardwalk Lodge
Guest traveling on public airlines will typically arrive in Ketchikan on an Alaska Airlines flight prior to 5pm. From there, a float plane takes you on a scenic, 33-minute ride straight to our dock, where Boardwalk staff will greet you and take luggage to your room. Once you settle in, you'll join us in the main lodge for dinner, drinks, and relaxation.
Day 2: Steelhead Class
Alaska’s Boardwalk lodge is a perfect location to learn how to fly fish for steelhead or to improve your skills. Our exceptional instructors can help anyone progress in their fly fishing. Learn how to cast just outside the lodge on the tidal pond then put your newfound or refined skills to the test on some of the most exciting fish around. Whether you are a beginner who would like to get into the sport, or a skilled angler looking to progress to the next level, we have the knowledge and expertise to help. We provide all the newest Orvis equipment, fantastic amenities, and a beautiful setting for the ultimate Steelhead Fly-Fishing School. In this comprehensive school, you will have the opportunity to learn single handed and two-handed techniques for steelhead fishing. The unique characteristics of the rivers you will be fishing allow you to have an opportunity to see the fish you are targeting. This is a truly unforgettable experience.
Days 3-5: Three Full Days of Fishing and Adventure
Each evening you'll meet briefly with your guide to plan the next day's adventure. Every morning between 6-7am your breakfast is made to order; then you pack a feast from our lunch buffet to enjoy stream-side; and finally hit the water. Your guide transports you by vehicle to your waterway of choice—one of 23 lakes, rivers, and streams on the island. Guides are scheduled for ten hours each day, generally from 7am to 5pm (additional hours may be arranged).
Day 6: Depart Boardwalk Lodge
Enjoy a hearty breakfast, pick up a last-minute trinket in our gift shop, and say your goodbyes. Your luggage will be waiting on our dock for your float-plane departure (usually between 9 and 10am). Enjoy another breathtaking flight to Ketchikan, and start planning your next Alaskan adventure!
