Ken Kalil offers guided fly fishing trips, fly fishing schools, and corporate trips tailored to client needs. Beginners welcome. With over 25 years in the outfitting business and having over 40 years of fishing experience, we have a good handle on what it takes to provide a wonderful experience on the water. At Kalil's our focus is on providing customers patient, professional, experienced fly fishing guides, with excellent teaching ability.

Focusing on the legendary waters of the Ausable, Saranac, and Adirondacks.

Typical Weather by Season

March/April/October/November in upstate NY can go from single digits and all out winter to 70's and bright sun.

May/June weather can change often and quickly in the day from the spring like weather of the high 70's to low 30's.

July/August temps can be in the 90's, and as low as the 40's. Rain showers can move in very quickly, and warm dry heat days can bring evening temps in 30's. September daytime air temps can often be in the high 50's and 60's. The chance of unstable fall weather and mornings starting out in the low 30's increase towards the second half of this month.

Full day is eight hours, half day is four.

What is Provided to Customer

Guide, refreshments on all guided trips, lunch on full day guided trips, transportation from a central meeting point to and from waters. Equipment can be provided for additional charges.


Species you Fish for by Season

April through November: Brown, Rainbow, Brook Trout, and warm water species.
March, April, May: Spring Steelhead
September, October: King Salmon
October, November: Fall Steelhead and Brown Trout


What Should Customers Bring

  • NY fishing license
  • Polarized sun glasses
  • Baseball hat
  • Waterproof/breathable/Rain coat
  • Fleece pullover
  • Allergy meds (if needed)
  • Polypropylene top & bottom
  • Wool Socks
  • (Sept, Oct, Nov, Mar, Apr, May) clients should have 2 wool or synthetic gloves, handwarmers, winter hat, fleece pants, neck warmer
  • (Steelhead trips) Should have Korkers or a studded strap on wading cleat approved by your guide
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen


Questions that you are Frequently Asked

How much do you charge for a full day and how many people can you take?
We charge between $200 and $450 depending on number of clients. We can take up to three clients per guide.

Do you teach people that have never fly fished?
Yes. We love teaching beginners, and our guides have great teaching abilities.

Do you welcome kids?
We try our best to accommodate everyone, and will certainly be glad to tailor trips as much as we possibly can.

Do you offer lodging?
No. We try our best to keep a good handle on who is offering the best local lodging.
