The Gunpowder River Located in northern Baltimore County, The Gunpowder River has remained a trout fishermans favorite. This river is a tail water which means that its source is controlled by a dam and in this case, the Prettyboy Dam and the reservoir hold the water that flows into the river. Techniques & Tips

Nymphing will be the best, but if you see the adult bugs, throw some larger mayfly patterns. Wet fly and emerger patterns will also work very well.

The fish may be a bit off with the new flows, but the conditions are great. Swing some soft-hackles and some streamers and look for the bugs on the surface. Terrestrials will be best for prospecting and the caddis are still around. Tricos should be coming very soon.
