The Vermilion River our best Tributary in western Ohio, winds its way through urban areas, rural lanscapes, valleys, and gorges on the way to Lake Erie. The " V" gets excellent returns of Spring run Manistee Strain Steelhead starting in late November.
Due to the managment efforts of the Ohio Division of Wildlife theVermilion River has become a solid spring steelhead fishery. The Vermilion River ...
is also classified as one of Ohio's Wild and Scenic Rivers.
Smallie action has been heating up with plenty of fish willing to take streamers and crayfish patterns. With the warm days in the forecast, don't be afraid to get your top-water game going. Casting poppers and sliders into cover will become more and more effective as the summer progresses. When targeting carp, make sure to focuses mainly on feeding carp, and cast small crawfish patterns or other carpflies into their "feeding zone". Try to be as stealhy as possibe, river pigs are notoriously spooky, especially in low flows.
The river is on the side right now and is fishable. Watch the local flows and fish when the conditions permit. With all the rain we have been having it is tough to say how much and when the flows are going to change.
