Best time of day to fish: All day!!

Best stretch: The Madison River is open to traffic to and from W. Yellowstone, MT. Fishing is best from Madison Junction to 7 Mile Bridge

Best access point: Below Madison Junction Campground to 7 Mile Bridge

Fly fishing hatches in order of importance:

Caddis, yellow Sally's Firehole and Gibbon.Spruce moths, smaller caddis, midges and some hopper action now.

Fish species: Brown, Rainbow and Mountain Whitefish

Fishing season: Memorial Day weekend to the first weekend in November

Madison River Description

THE MADISON RIVER INSIDE YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK CLOSED UNTIL NEXT SEASON WHICH OPENS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2016. PRAY FOR MORE SNOW THIS WINTER!! YNP IS SORELY LACKING THE STUFF RIGHT NOW. The season begins the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (usually the last weekend in May) and extends through the first Sunday in November

Techniques & Tips

Match the hatch or fish soft hackles and bead head nymphs until another hatch or stonefly emergence occurs.

7-Day Forecast

Flows are good on the Madison and its tributaries, the Gibbon and Firehole Rivers. Caddis and some small to larger stoneflies out now.
