Best stretch: Madison Campground downstream to Seven Mile Bridge

Best access point: Not of importance. Lots of turnouts and pulloffs on the Madison

Fly fishing hatches in order of importance:

Caddis primarily. Terrestrial insect action is picking up but waters are warm!!

Fish species: Brown, Rainbow and Mountain Whitefish

Fishing season: Memorial Day weekend to the first weekend in November

THE MADISON RIVER INSIDE YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK CLOSED UNTIL NEXT SEASON WHICH OPENS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2016. PRAY FOR MORE SNOW THIS WINTER!! YNP IS SORELY LACKING THE STUFF RIGHT NOW. The season begins the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (usually the last weekend in May) and extends through the first Sunday in November

Techniques & Tips

Hatches can be change frequently, so it is reasonable to change your fly patterns often during the day. Dry dropper rigs produce consistent takes, if matchinng dropper to dry fly pattern. Hopper and caddis nymph dropper works well.
