North Platte River, Colorado Fly Fishing Reports & Conditions
My tips of the week
Target rising fish! Use a 9 foot 4x or 5x leader with double dry flies set up. Using a smaller elk hair caddis or stimulator size 16 trailed with either a BWO or Trico pattern of your choice has been getting some great looks. Make your first cast count and HAVE FUN! Look for the best fishing to take place early and into the late morning.

Techniques & Tips

Fishing in the canyon remains most productive during the early and later parts of the day. The hatches have been starting regularly around 8 - 8:30AM with Trico's BWO's and Caddis. Fish have been looking up pretty steadily on these hatches from the time they begin till around noon. When fish are not keyed in on hatches, a hopper dropper setup with a size 10, 12, or 14 hopper of your choice with a hare's ear or pheasant tail variation in size 14 or 16 has been a productive setup. Once fish start rising, you will have a good opportunity to work on your dry fly fishing. Trico and Blue Wing spinners and cripples have been working well. Good Luck!
