Bennett Spring State Park, Missouri Fly Fishing Reports & Conditions
My tips of the week
I would currently rate the fishing conditions at a 7 out of 10. Our water is currently about 2 inches high at Bennett Spring. Fishing has been fair to good with a few less fish being caught in zone 2. The area from the 3rd wing dam to the old dam is seeing a lighter fish population right now. Fish the seams where the fast and slow water meet. They are catching a lot of fish deep on dark colored streamer patterns. Also white patterns have been good along with the cream mop fly.

Bennett Spring State Park Description

The Bennett Spring area was founded by pioneers who used the cool, rushing waters of the spring-fed stream for gristmills. Now, it’s a Missouri state park, one of the state's most popular trout destinations where people come to wrestle with rainbow trout and fish a stream that’s stocked every night.

Techniques & Tips

Dry fly fishing is starting to improve. Beetles and ants have been picking up some fish late morning thru the afternoon. Sinking fly lines fished deep with a variety of woolie worms along with various colors of cracklebacks have been effective. We have a few new colors that have been producing well. Zebra midges along with rust or olive copper hot shots have been good as well.. The cream mop flies and white are effective.

7-Day Forecast

Most schools are back in session. The summer crowds have thinned substantially. During the week is a great time to come to the park and get some good fishing in.
