Fly Fishing Lower Canyon Creek is currently Good

Water flow: Average flows

Visibility: 24 inches

Water temperature at mid-day: 48 Degrees F

Water condition: Clear

Best time of day to fish: All Day

Best stretch: White Mountain Apache Reservation border to OW Bridge

Best access point: Take Young Rd off of HWY 260 and follow signs to Lower Canyon Creek. Part of the road is now closed off so you will have to park at the gate and hike in.

BWO Midge

Fish species: Wild brown and a few rainbow trout

Fishing season: March 1-November 25

Nearest airport: Show Low and Phoenix Sky Harbor

Lower Canyon Creek Description

Small stream that is catch and release, fly and lure only. Canyon Creek was affected by the Rodeo-Chedeski fire but has made a full recovery. The hatches on this stream are like nothing else you will see in Arizona.

Techniques & Tips

Try to fish early morning or late afternoon with temps rising. Start with a dry dropper rig and change flies often if not getting bites.
