What is podcasting?
Podcasting distributes an audio file online for automatic downloading. Once you’ve downloaded the audio file, you can listen to it on your computer or portable media player.
How can I hear podcasts?
First, you’ll need a podcast-compatible audio/video management application. iTunes (from Apple) incorporates the podcast software; iPodder or Odeo are also capable of managing podcast subscriptions. As long as you have a sound card in your computer, you can listen to downloaded podcasts right on your computer. Of course you can take your podcasts with you by transferring them to a portable media player.
Is a broadband Internet connection necessary?
Broadband access is recommended, but not required. With an average file size of 5 megabytes, dial-up users may encounter unacceptably long download times.
How do I subscribe to or download an Orvis podcast?
Simply click the button that corresponds to your preferred podcasting tool. Or, if you prefer to download an audio file directly to your computer without subscribing to that podcast on an ongoing basis, click the “Download MP3” button.
If your preferred tool doesn’t have a corresponding button, highlight the URL below the podcast you want. Copy this link and paste it into your podcasting application.
I’ve subscribed to an Orvis podcast, but I still can’t hear any audio.
First, check that you have audio player software. Next, make sure the audio file successfully downloaded to your computer. Be sure that your software is set to check for updates automatically. Compare the update times in the description to make sure there’s not a newer podcast available for download. If there is, re-subscribe to your chosen podcast to ensure that your computer automatically downloads the newest episodes as they become available.
