The best socks -

Hubs has been wearing these socks for years. They last a VERY long time compared to standard brands. The only thing that wears out over time is the band at the top where you grab to pull them up - not the heels or toes or anywhere else. We will continue to buy these forever as long as Orvis continues to make them.

These are the best mid weight socks I have ever owned. They stay up and form to your foot. The merino wool content is higher than their competition and above all they are comfortable !

I recently made a second purchase of Invincible extra socks. When first presented with the price I was surprised by the cost of 3 pair of socks ,but when I could not wear out any of the Orvis socks compared to going thru other manufactures product in a relatively short period of time I realized the tremendous value of the Orvis product Outstanding value !

I wanted a perfect "English type" dress vest for my husband (who has many jackets, etc which we got in England during our many stays there. Lo, and behold, there was the perfect moleskin vest in my Orvis catalog and after ordering it my salesman informed me I had scored the last one in my husband's size. Indeed, that was my lucky day!!
An ancient and universal fiber
One of the oldest and most universal fibers, felted or woven wool has been used for garments and household linens since the earliest civilizations. Wool textiles have been documented as far back as 3,000 B.C.
The superior quality of wool from merino sheep
Thousands of years of evolution and selective breeding have resulted in merino sheep capable of producing a super-fine wool fiber. One square inch of merino fleece produces nearly four times as many wool fibers as other breeds of sheep. Interlaced with millions of microscopic air pockets, which act as Nature’s most effective insulator, merino fibers naturally reduce the passage of heat by trapping air between the woolen fibers. Because merino fibers are smaller in diameter and more abundant than in any other wool, they trap more air and keep the wearer naturally more comfortable.
Versatile, durable and comfortable
Merino wool keeps the wearer warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. These remarkable fibers also absorb up to 30% of their own weight in moisture, pulling vapor away from the body so that the wearer stays dry and comfortable regardless of the temperature.
Fine merino wool is soft, not scratchy!
Modern technology has made it possible to sort and select only the finest merino fibers. Merino wool has a microscopic diameter—about one-third to one-tenth the thickness of a human hair. The smaller the diameter, the finer, softer, and less scratchy the fabric will be. Lustrous merino wool produces fabric that can be worn next to the skin without discomfort, is soft, and always provides an exceptional hand and distinctive style. Orvis offers a wide range of luxuriously soft merino wool clothing for men.
