The Story

Join Orvis—endorsed fly-fishing guide Capt. Ernie French for your angling adventure in New York:

"Because of Montauk's unique location at the confluence of migrating fish and the nurseries of their preferred baitfish, there is no better place to be fishing from May till December. I have been fishing these waters professionally for twenty-five years. I know these waters intimately and am prepared to offer all of my acquired knowledge in making your trip a memorable experience."

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

What is Provided:

I provide all fishing gear and flies needed for your trip and can provide rain gear. I carry plenty of water.

Gear Recommendations:

Depending on the time of year we use 8 wt., 9 wt. or 10 wt. rods. Intermediate lines are the most productive but on the flats, floating lines work well.

What to Bring:

Please bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, jacket, and something to eat.

Season:

Our season starts around mid-May and, weather permitting, can go into December. The fall migration begins in September.

Species:

Our regularly-targeted species are striped bass and bluefish in the spring and summer. Our fall run also offers false albacore, and on occasion, blue fin tuna. In addition to these targeted fish, there can be observed ocean sunfish, whales, and basking sharks.

Region/Terrain:

Montauk and the Hamptons offer as much on land as on the water. World-class beaches, dining, shopping and entertainment are just a of the few things available while on shore.

Typical Weather:

Our weather can range from cool in the spring, to almost tropical in summer and back to cool in the fall.

Rates start from: $550.00 for a half day to $800.00 for a full day
You can find all pricing information at: www.flyfishmontauk.com

Other:

I can offer options on places to stay and I always advise clients to inquire about cancellation policies while booking in case of bad weather.

Additional Activities:

I belong to our local gun club and if we do get weathered out there is the possibility of skeet shooting.
