Accommodations:

Join us on a group fly-fishing trip during Orvis week at Tsylos Park Lodge in Canada’s British Columbia. A premier wilderness lodge, Tsylos Park provides a warm and welcoming gathering place to enjoy good times with your fellow travelers. Situated adjacent to the Chilko River, the location of the lodge and guest cabins takes advantage of offering its guests beautiful views of the river, valley, and the Coast Mountains. The lodge holds a dining area, a great room with a big stone fireplace, a fully stocked bar with a nice selection of beer, wine, and spirits, a Jacuzzi, a barbecue area, and big decks. The lodge is a great place to share a drink, play a great game of cards, soak in the Jacuzzi overlooking the river, or take advantage of the big deck while viewing millions of stars. Of course, an option is to sit by the roaring fire sharing a great story of the day. Tsylos Park Lodge accommodations include cabins or rooms designed for quiet and comfort. Each unit is set up for two persons and offers private bathrooms, comfy beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, duvets, gas fireplaces, or a wood-burning stove. Daily maid services keep your room clean and tidy and supplied with fresh towels every day.

Meals:

Meals are prepared fresh by the in-house chef and served family-style at the lodge. Each day everyone sits down together for a tasty breakfast and dinner. It is always full of great conversations, and lots of laughter. The owners continue with the tradition of having an open kitchen so everyone can enjoy watching their delicious meals being freshly prepared, with mouth-watering aromas to entice your appetite. Breakfast is a blend of the Canadian hot breakfast, bacon and eggs, fresh potatoes, and pancakes, as well as an assortment of fresh fruits, cereals, and yogurts. Lunch is spent streamside, on top of a mountain, or wherever your wanderings have taken you. Dinner is a special time of day. Everyone gathers for a relaxing dinner and mouth-watering meals: fresh salads, meats, bread, pasta, as well as tasty desserts. Wine is served with dinner.

Alcohol:

House wine is included with dinner. Tsylos has a selection of wines by the bottle that guests can also purchase as well as a selection of beers and spirits. If guests decide to bring their own alcohol it would have to be consumed in the guest rooms, and not at the lodge as it's against the rules of the government and license.

Your day begins with fresh clean air and a beautiful view. A hearty Canadian breakfast is served at 8:30 am along with fresh fruits, yogurt, and juices. After breakfast, your guide has your packed lunch ready with your preferred drinks for the day. Once you're geared up, your guide is ready for your day's fly-fishing adventure on the river by jet boat, floating the river by drift boat, or taking the lake boat up Chilko Lake. All lunches are served streamside. After a brief walk to the dock, you head out for a great day of fly fishing. At the end of the day, you will return to the lodge in time to enjoy appetizers and drinks with the rest of the group. Dinner is served at 7:00 pm. After dinner, there is time for a walk, Jacuzzi, a game of horseshoes, or hanging out on the deck watching the stars.

*Please note that this itinerary is subject to change.

Chilko Lake:

Surrounded by the Coast Mountains and fed by glacial streams, Chilko Lake is the largest high-elevation lake in North America and in places reaches depths of over 1600 feet. It supports the 3rd largest run of sockeye in British Columbia and both the river and lake are the natural spawning grounds and rearing habitat for rainbow trout, steelhead, bull trout, Rocky Mountain whitefish, sockeye, chinook, and Coho salmon. It is home to a healthy population of indigenous bull trout, rainbows, and the mythical white sturgeon.

Chilko River:

Chilko River is punctuated with long, deep pools, riffles, boulder gardens, shelves, structure, whitewater, and braided channels, all of which offer a wide variety of fishing opportunities. The river is crystal clear and it’s common to see large trout slowly rising from the river bed to take your fly. The river's constant flow and temperature maximize insect hatches and resident fish growth. The river flows out of Chilko Lake, which acts as a natural filtration system, ensuring consistent water flow and its legendary clarity. The Chilko River then continues northeasterly through the Chilcotin plateau and meets the Chilcotin River, which, in turn, flows into the mighty Fraser River.

Chilko River Fly Fishing Season:

The Chilko River fishing season runs mid-June to mid-September with the dry fly-fishing season in July and August. We are blessed with the certain knowledge that the consistent dry fly action for large, scrappy rainbows is second to none. The river opens in mid-June when the wet fly fishing is excellent for both rainbows and bull trout. At the end of June, the dry fly season begins as the fish start looking up, and throughout July and August the dry fly fishing is second to none. In September as the salmon move into the river, the rainbows and bull trout start to feast on salmon eggs. In mid-September, the river closes for fishing from a motorboat in respect of the spawning salmon.

Target Species:

Bull and rainbow trout.
