Luxurious, refined, yet practical Viyella® shirt fabric has been renowned for years. The vivid color, soft hand, and sturdy weave of these button-up shirts for men result from a process that began in 1784, just outside Nottingham, England. The process spins together a blend of 80% long-staple, combed pima cotton and 20% Australian merino wool fibers to create a yarn that lends Viyella fabric its signature combination of a smooth hand and durability that only betters with age. Button-down collar. Patch pocket. Two-button cuffs. Button up shirts for men are made from cotton/wool. Washable. Imported.
Sizes: S(34-36—item 72CR only), M(38-40), L(42-44), XL(46-48), XXL(50-52). Tall sizes 3" longer in sleeves and 3½" longer in body.

We field-test all of them on associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. Inseaming Guidelines: Most Orvis pants are available custom hemmed to your inseam length. In addition, many of our pants can be plain finished or cuffed. Plain finished hems are cut for length, then folded under, creased, and sewn. When tailoring a cuffed hem, we create a 1 1/4” cuff at your request. Simply specify your preference when ordering.

How to Measure

Men's Sizing In all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Head: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.
b. Neck Circumference: Wrap tape around to the base of your front neck and allow room for wearing comfort. OR measure the collar length of a favorite shirt.
c. Sleeve Length: From the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape around to your wrist bone.
d. Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.
e. Waist: Wrap tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your pants.
f. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.
g. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of pants you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.
h. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Use the chart above to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.

Luxury Cotton & Merino

Brisbane Moss mill circa 1912. In the late eighteenth Century at the dawn of the industrial revolution, the English developed a method of spinning wool and cotton in almost identical quantities. William Hollins and Company, a spinner and knitter in Nottinghamshire, England, developed the original fabric that was used for decades in sportswear, military uniforms, and outerwear.

The genius of his method was that the yarns were indigenously spun combining the warmth of very soft lambswool and long-staple cotton (from far-flung corners of the trade routes of the English Empire), to engineer a very light fabric of exceptional warmth and durability. The chief characteristic of wool is the individual fiber’s ability to trap body warmth and wick moisture; while the chief characteristic of cotton is its smooth and absorbent nature. The expert blending and spinning of the right percentages of these unrelated fibers became a miracle of the age.

Weaving room circa 1890. A more commonly acceptable blend of 81% cotton and 19% lambswool, which was woven as a twill and brushed into a flannel, was produced from the beginning for workwear and more rugged intensive activities. This traditional blend is today the basis of our exclusive Luxury Cotton & Merino fabric.

We found that the longer fibers of today’s merino sheepswool spin tighter and more completely with our long-staple cotton than the older lambswool (little lambswool fibers, although soft, are very short ). This tightness of yarn establishes the durability while holding the vivid dyes in these yarn-dyed patterns, which have been carefully selected and executed from our textile pattern library.
